I love how they just casually admit that they're "exploring ways" to break the law.
Well, it didn't take as long as I thought it would to come to this.
Does anyone still think America isn't a dictatorship?
TBH its not very obvious. Immigration officials around the world probably still view the US as a democracy. If an American were to apply for political asylum in, say, the EU, for example, it would likely get rejected.
We need something very concrete, like if 2026 elections get cancelled or martial law declared, then they would actually take asylum applications seriously.
They aren't going to declare or cancel anything. They'll just do stuff and delay indefinitely.
Maybe for trans people they would get asylum, since many countries have issued travel warnings to trans people from outside the US about traveling to the US.
I've read some comments from trans people that because blue states exist, they aren't considered in danger when it comes to asylum.
Pretty sure Canada has been using that as reason for denials. Most of the orgs I’ve looked at don’t help trans people in the US for that reason too.
I’ll take blue state gladly, but even that’s a difficult prospect. The economics of being a despised minority which it is legal to fire, evict, (or DV lol) are very difficult - I would probably be homeless if I wasn’t very fucking good at math.
But also - anti trans movements and fascism in general are on the rise globally. There aren’t quite that many safe places to run to.
One aspect of being a gender/sexual minority versus someone being oppressed along the aspects of race, nationality status, or religion tends to be that we don’t usually have the same kinds of familial support. If I were a POC, my family and friends would probably understand my fears, validate them, and perhaps support me. Gay and trans people are born to straight and cis parents, and it’s impossible to have to explain “yes, I am currently doing sex work because my boss looked at my drivers license and decided that I shouldn’t have a job anymore.”
Moving to a new place requires support networks and communities that trans people don’t usually have.
The rest of the world doesn’t really get that unless blue states take more drastic actions, nothing can or will be done to save trans folks, and that the second the leading party changes from blue to red, all deals are now off, and this can happen every few years.
I feel like if you are trans in the US and don’t have plans to move, you need to get ready for the worst.
Unfortunately, they've made getting a passport prohibitively difficult for trans folks who have already changed their gender markers so even if countries were accepting trans asylum seekers (most aren’t) getting to and across the border has excess difficulties beyond convincing another country that your life and liberty are threatened.
Plus, by the time countries do start accepting asylum seekers it’ll be too late, boarder patrol will be detaining people before they’ll have a chance to cross.
Don’t worry guys! He only wants to deport the worst criminals! You know, like the enemies of the people. Now, who was it that he call the enemy of the people, again…?
First they came for the students protesting the genocide and to divest from Israel... and we said FUCK THOSE PROTESTORS!
Rapists, gang members, democrats, red haired people, wokists... You know. The enemy!
Then finally the non-loyalists
I did not have "The Nazi's will outsource their gulags to El Salvador" on my fascism 2025 bingo card... I need to get more creative, or possibly criminally insane.
Man, pay attention to terminology:
-
Nazi = Lager
-
Soviet = Gulag
So yeah if that's the case then we need to seriously explore ways to remove him from office
Removal of Trumps entire regime should be the core demand of the protests, instead of that milquetoast "Hands off" BS
Well, certainly we can count on the republicans to vote to impeach and convict once they see him disregard the constitution.
What did the founders say?
Something something second admendment against tyranny?
Well, I guess somebody needs to do their patriotic duty to defend the Constitution.
🏛💣💥🔫🇺🇸
Well, they didn't say that. They did say we need to kill tyrants, but the second amendment is not part of that. It's about defending the state, as militias were the standard military of the time, not standing professional armies like it is now.
Of course he does.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
First they came for the socialists ... But the US was coming for the socialists at the time, so that part is left out at the Holocaust museum memorial.
Actually first they came for LGBTQ+ people and scientists studying controversial subject matter, but the guy who wrote the poem was a conservative Catholic priest, so he didn't mind.
Worse than that, he was part of a group that carved out special exemptions for their churches with Hitler. And was a raging anti-semite until his death bed iirc.
So a traditional conservative who only saw evil when it affected him. And only insofar as HOW it affected him.
Man, can you imagine hating on your deathbed? I'd think of the slightly less shitty times.
A piece of garbage that has a far better legacy than he deserves.
Well, his legacy is about regretting a mistake for not standing up for others even if he doesn't like them. I don't think that's a legacy of doing good even if it's a good legacy. I think he has the legacy he deserves; being known for failing to do what's right even when others died doing so.
You have a very good point. Not even remotely remorseful for being motivated by blind hatred, but able to at least consider the babies of a basic ethical framework based solely on pragmatism.
That makes it a better poem in retrospect, imo. It demonstrates its own moral
Can't wait to find out if I've been vocal enough to be selected as a concentration camp candidate!
It is really simple. You put a swastika on your flag, blow an important empty building and you say the country is in an emergency, transfering all powers to White House.
aw man....everyday i go like: sure them muricans cant come up and even do stupider shit today. yesterday was so stupid...seriously no chance for stupider shit.
but then...dang...again they did it. not only the orange guy...most of them. schumer, fetterman, cruz...they all have tapped into the only infinite resource. may idiocracy prevail, right?
maga like it
