Wealthy business leaders are turning on US President Donald Trump over his plan to impose a colossal set of tariffs on America’s trading partners, as losses mount on stock markets around the world.

Yeah, because of course they are. I mean, it's not like they could have POSSIBLY known how bad the shitgibbon would shit the bed, right? RIGHT?!

Another data point (if you needed one) that republicans and billionaires only give a shit about something when it affects them personally.

Illegal deportations - not their problem

threats to journalists - not their problem

dehumanizing specific groups of people - not their problem

thousands of federal employees losing their jobs overnight - not their problem

defying constitutional amendments - not their problem

Fuck with their ability to hoard more money - Shit we need to do something!

Absolutely!

Are they really, though? Or are they just reading the room and pretending to give a shit while buying the dip so they won't get Luigi'd?

[–] [email protected] 47 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well, a group backed by Leonard Leo and the Koch brothers sued Trump because of tariffs. I'd say that's giving a bit of a shit.

These goons run companies who are notorious for only caring about this quarter's profits. If they see profits drop because of bullshit tariffs, that's going to hurt them today. And any benefits, if they ever appear, will take years to show up, so they're not worth supporting.

Sounds like these dummy CEOs don't realize that losing money costs you nothing maybe they need to go read Art of the Deal and find out how a real man runs (and subsequently destroys) businesses!

Millionaires and private equity are going to clean up. Most billionaires are cash poor and are losing big. Traders like Buffet can liquidate, but owners like Musk and Bezos can’t just sell off all ownership.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Buffet liquidated months ago. He’s been sitting on a pile of cash waiting for “value” (meaning a crash)

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Exactly. Most traders do when a Republican takes office.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

Not as smart as they think they are. Only way to be sure is to not be a billionaire anymore.

My enemy's enemy is not necessarily my friend.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 4 days ago

Very true, but it can certainly be cathartic to watch them snipe at each other.

[–] [email protected] 64 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Billionaires have always turned on Trump, slightly more than underage girls.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

But his daughter turns him on the most.

Billionaires suddenly remember why they always backed the Democrats which kept trickling down the absolute bare minimum (even less actually) to the poors, instead of the Fascist which collapses the entire economy by sending everything to the rich.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

First they came for social safety nets, and I helped them along, for that's more money in my pocket

Then, they came for the minimum wage worker, and I helped them along, for that's more money in my pocket

Then they came for the forests, trees and all natural things, and I helped them along, for that's more money in my pocket

And when they finally came for the stocks and unregulated securities and offshore accounts, there was no one left to defend me

[–] [email protected] 55 points 4 days ago (20 children)

We will severely damage our reputation with the rest of the world that will take years and potentially decades to rehabilitat

Awesome, so a democrat cannot fix it in 4 years and the population will vote for an idiot again. Endless circle of stupidity...

At the billionaires lair..."Hey guys! Let's release a presser saying how we don't like Trump!" Everyone starts laughing and saying things like "Ooohh! Those righty's and lefty's heads will explode!".

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

Billionaires actually need to fucking go. My whole life there has been this hypothetical question of "what if billionaires actually used their money for good" along with this quiet acceptance by society that it'll never actually happen.

But now, as it turns out, not only are they doing nothing good for the world with their wealth but they actually actively use their wealth to buy up all the news organisations, push misinformation, prop up right wingers and inflict misery onto everyone.

I think it's great that they're starting to turn on the orange painted clown with the comically large tie but that's not because of his desire to hurt everyone that isn't a white cis male and push hate, nope, that's exactly what these fucking cunts wanted. It's just that he's a bit more fucking stupid than they bargained for now and now they're numbers are going down. How awful for them.

Fuck them. I hope that there's nothing but guillotines and rope in their futures.

Eat a dick, Bill.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (3 children)

They're jealous because only one billionaire got to penetrate the holy inner Trump circle, like a sick South African sperm crossing into the diseased MAGA ovum, to fuck with federal regulators and help his own businesses.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That will give birth to a deformed monster that will probably be a still birth

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

That's what he tried to do.

Also, he's not done for yet: the vast majority of Musk's business is government contracts. SpaceX in particular benefits greatly from the Musk corruption. It's only Tesla that's suffering (slightly) and it's not the company Musk has the most shares in.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

it’s not the company Musk as the most shares in

Number of shares is an arbitrary figure. It's the value of all those shares that matters.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is not about Musk, Musk is not fond of the tariffs either. All of Trump's stupid economic ideas are Peter Navarro's doing

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

This is 200% about Musk. He backed the orange utan and now he's having a leopard-eating face time. Well cry me a fucking river...

Just because Musk is hurting too doesn't exonerate him from blame. He created this situation he's so unhappy about now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

It is completely fine for you or the general public to make this about Musk's leopard-eating face time. I agree with you on that.

All I'm saying is that the reason these billionaires dislike tariffs has nothing to do with Musk, they have a very real different reason for that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

And how well did he do helping his own businesses? Lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

Only the dumbest of fucks are worthy of His blessings

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago

Right, of course they are. The problem is that this was always their strategy. Too many opportunities to make money and seize power, right? The chaos and lawlessness is good for that.

For example, SCOTUS threw out Chevron last year, so it's harder to enforce environmental regulations. Easy money. The labor oversight committees, the pro-consumer committees, those have all been gutted. Easy money. Even if they're rebuilt, that's another chance to game the system.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

Too little too late.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Greed is one hell of a drug.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

Doesn't make up for the fact they are his people

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 days ago

I think this is fake news.

They’re all millionaires now.
