Hear me out here:
Perhaps were SO ADVANCED in our feminism we actually understand that just voting for any woman because they are a woman is in fact not good or progressive
It's like we understand that politicians are individual people, who are all assholes, and there haven't been a lot of strong politicians male or female to vote for lately.
I'm SO FEMINIST I'm going to wait and keep my eye out for skilled and upstanding politicians with a proven track record that aligns with my values, and then vote for them regardless of their gender
Exactly. Rachel Anne Notley and Marlaina Danielle Smith were both Premiers of Alberta, and both women. Their gender had no bearing on their party's policy platform, which are at opposite ends on the political spectrum, so people shouldn't be making decisions for who they want in government based on gender.
It's easy to excuse the Ontario election as misogyny against Crombie and Stiles, but it was more a matter of the convenient timing of the Ford government, and the OLP and ONDP that kept stepping on each others' toes during the campaign and couldn't really mount a convincing message themselves.
Carla Beck of the SaskNDP did an amazing job with her party's campaign. The party had fell just shy of the majority, which was possibly going to be an upset victory with a sudden shift in polling. The platform was focused on the issues, down to earth, fully costed, and centred around three easy to understand policy pillars: Affordability, Healthcare, Education. I hope that people voted SaskNDP for this platform, rather than because of the leader's gender.
