It's clear we were never friends. More like vassal states.

USA helped us get rid of fascism in WW2. And they helped Europe rebuild with the Marshall plan. They also helped stop genocide in Yugoslavia. And they were instrumental in breaking up USSR, which was a huge European benefit too.
Unfortunately USA has turned more and more to becoming fascist itself.
But for decades USA and Europe helped each other. USA was the more influential part, but Europe accepted and supported Pax Americana freely, we were never actual vassals.
