Shamelessly stolen from another forum site:

Just found out Plex has updated its Privacy Policy page and added a new page to opt-out trackings.

https://www.plex.tv/about/privacy-legal/

https://www.plex.tv/vendors-us/

Up until now all your playback data may be involuntarily sent to ad agencies and companies such as Amazon to silently influence and target your buyings. Now we can opt out everything and keep your watch habit private and treat your plex server like never existed.

EDIT: now you can also easily access privacy settings and delete all already uploaded watch history, and stop syncing watch states, rating etc. Remember to set all to private if privacy is important to you.

https://prnt.sc/hj6ZNNh31nl3 https://prnt.sc/0DGbRGLI97_G https://prnt.sc/er3dYwJnut9j

EDIT2: also double confirm "Send playback data to Plex" is unchecked.

Upcoming Plex Pass Price Increase

The price increase applies to new and existing subscriptions, with the exception of existing Lifetime Plex Pass holders.

New USD prices as of April 29, 2025 will be:
Monthly: $6.99
Yearly: $69.99
Lifetime: $249.99

If you’d like to lock in a Lifetime Plex Pass subscription at the current rate of $119.99 USD, you have until April 29, 2025 to do so.

Upcoming Change to Remote Playback for Personal Media

We are also changing how remote playback works for streaming personal media (that is, playback when not on the same local network as the server). The reality is that we need more resources to continue putting forth the best personal media experience, and as a result, we will no longer offer remote playback as a free feature.

So Long, Mobile Unlock Fee

Our Android and iOS mobile apps previously required a one-time activation fee or Plex Pass to remove the one-minute playback limitation when streaming content from a Plex Media Server. As part of these changes, there will no longer be any such one-minute playback limitation.

EDIT:

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CURRENT PLEX PASS HOLDERS: For users who have an active Plex Pass subscription, remote playback will continue to be available to you without interruption from any Plex Media Server, after these changes go into effect. When running your own Plex Media Server as a subscriber, other users to whom you have granted access can also stream from the server (whether local or remote), without ANY additional charge—not even a mobile activation fee.

Lifetime Pass Member.. just put on The Devils Advocate (1997) and got a full 30s ad.

… just paused it to verify it was actually in my library… -and got another 2 ads… what the actual fuck? Just me?

EDIT: Looking back at the app, seems I was somehow in Plex Streaming, but how it was put up above my own content I can’t understand, and the movie page does not make it obvious that’s what I’m looking at.

Given the previews of the new Plex experience, I think I'm going to need an alternative media player.

Here's my background.

• My media is stored on a QNAP NAS. All my devices are made by Apple.

• My library is a decent size. About 1,500 movies, 50 TV series, 75,000 songs, plus 2,000 classical pieces (would love a better way to manage classical music).

• I use PlexAmp on my computer to listen to music all day. If I were to listen to music outside the house, PlexAmp is my only music app.

• I use Plex on Apple TV to watch my movie and TV library. To a lesser degree, I watch home movies, music videos, and various media obtained from archive.org - I call this my VHS library. I also listen to music and look at my photo library from my Apple TV.

• The Plex UX for VOD is bad so I instead use Pluto and Tubi (not that they're much better).

• I'll never watch content on my iPhone. I may watch on my iPad but not often.

• I share my library with family so we can watch home movies during the holidays. They sign into Plex on either Apple TV, Roku, or their phones. I've also been happy to share photos from within Plex but this is being stripped out to another app which will not work for us.

It's evident that Plex is intent to shove VOD down our throats at the expense of an enjoyable experience with our own content. For the older people in my family, this simple will not work at all.

The most important aspects are (1) an Apple TV app and (2) music apps.

I want something that's relatively easy to setup. I'm not going to spend time building docker containers and reverse proxies (unless it's a one-click process).

Is there a setting somewhere in Plex or on the server so that some songs don’t play loud and others so soft? Thanks in advance.

Are there any good iOS apps for rating songs while they play in Plex on the TV? I can’t find a way to rate songs using an AppleTV and its remote.

I did try the Plex app on the phone, but you have to leave it as the frontmost app or it will disconnect by the next time you open it (app flushes/sleeps). If it doesn’t disconnect then instead you get a mismatch of what’s playing and what can be rated (album art/track name/rating pane don’t match). There’s also no widgets from the app to do this from on iOS.

Or is there a web app I can run on the server and connect to from the phone’s web browser to rate items as they play?

@plexamp @plex Seeing an interesting/odd server response to an API call from with the Symfonium player - http://support.symfonium.app/t/manually-sync-all-playlists-option/5633/4?u=talios - any ideas why the server (Version 1.41.2.9092 - tho may have been the previous version at the time of this log) is generating wrong output? The server _is_ busy processing sonic analysis on a bunch of tracks tho - could that be related?

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on how to create a playlist of songs from my library that have been released as "singles" or "Top 40s" across a time period?

Let's say I wanted to throw a 90s party, and I wanted to create a playlist from my library using only songs that people are likely to know. I recognize that's totally subjective, so maybe that's why I'm struggling to find what I want. I can create a playlist based on album release date, which gets me a bit of the way there, but the playlist is going to include a lot of "deep cut" tracks and whole albums that few people know. I'd rather not spend too long curating the list. I was hoping for a way to just find popular tracks, and it seems like basing it on "chart toppers" would be a good place to start. Ideally, it would be genre-independent, but limited to songs that got decent radio play, so Backstreet Boys to Korn to Shania Twain are fine. Yo Yo Ma maybe not so much.

It doesn't seem like Plex has information available in the filters to achieve that. It does have "Popularity" as an additional column header if I list my music by "Tracks", so I guess I could sort by that and limit the results to some value. It feels a little clunky, though, and I'm not sure where it's getting that information.

I know that Library Radio is a thing, but I can't seem to make it do what I want. I only have 4 stations on the web interface: "Library Radio", "Deep Cuts Radio", "Time Travel Radio", and "Random Album Radio". Clicking on them just starts playing music from a wide selection that I have no control over. I know that "Decade Radio" exists, but it doesn't seem to be giving me what I want, either. It frequently pulls instrumental tracks from movie soundtracks. I have "Smart Shuffle" enabled on my server. I'm not sure if that's helping or hurting my experience (I've seen some very mixed reviews on that feature). I also can't find "Decade Radio" on the web interface; it seems like Decade Radio is only available on Plexamp.

I'd rather just create a playlist. That way it would be available everywhere, and I could tailor it a little bit, if needed.

So, yeah... any tips? It seems like the "filter by decade, sort by popularity, and limit by count" might be my best option right now.

Plex introduced an Auto-Sync Subtitles feature that aligns subtitles with audio using an algorithm that detects voices, supporting external SRT files and those from OpenSubtitles.com.

The feature requires a Plex Pass subscription, voice activity detection, and media analysis enabled on the server, but won't work on some systems like FreeBSD, Nvidia Shield, and certain NAS servers.

Plex is expanding its app offerings, including a new dedicated photos app in open beta, and currently offers a 20% discount on Lifetime Plex Pass subscriptions.

I'm looking to create an easy solution that is child/wife friendly. I'm hoping to get a set up going without internet. I however would like it to run like a Chromecast with plex.

I was thinking of a

Dell Optiplex 3020M Mini PC USFF, running windows 10

An external hard drive with content.

From here is where I have gaps. Could I set up a plex server offline on the device, with plex media player and use an Flirc remote with pre-programmed buttons?

Essentially, I'm trying to create the experience of watching Netflix on a Chromecast but with plex and a pc remote control of some sort (with pre-programmed buttons that load up content so kid and wife only have to press one or two buttons to get to their shows)

Thanks!

Tidal worth it? (poptalk.scrubbles.tech)

I'm in a musical rut for sure, Tidal is the obvious solution because it integrates with Plex. What plan do you use (if you do)? I use PlexAmp all the time, have a lifetime pro subscription for plex. I prefer high quality but not sure about that $19/month pricetag...
