@scrubbles nooo 😭

I guess this will be a good impetus to acquire all the music I was getting through Tidal by other means, which I was kind of meaning to do anyway

I asked Tidal to expand on the why. Not the most satisfying answer, but I thought this was a fun sentence:

We can confirm that since your account was activated with TIDAL Direct billing, you can still use the Plex app, and since the partnership will be concluded at some point, it won't work any more.

The apology was at least nice.

This is Tidal's fault bro.

I'm never going to take a corporate apology as genuine.

[–] LodeMike@lemmy.today 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Well what are they supposed to do?

[–] cybermass@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 months ago

"Tough luck fuckers!" Would be objectively funnier, so that I guess?

[–] Albbi@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Well, I was about to start using tidal. But I guess this is just about who is doing the billing.

Look at Qobuz. It's French-owned, and the owner does not seem to be publicly traded. Those two should decrease the likelihood of explosive enshittification. Plus they're a small player.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I wish there could be some legal guarantee that they will not go publicly traded – otherwise it's a ticking timebomb. It would give a certain demographic of customers more confidence in the service.

[–] avidamoeba@lemmy.ca 1 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

No guarantee. Existing publicly traded bombs have less time left on their timers.

Depends, they might be running without any profit on VC money and hoping to be acquired but run out before they do.

I was on the verge of starting a subscription to try out the AI generated playlists in PlexAmp. I hope they provide a similar integration with another service provider.

You can do it with your own media now, down side is you pretty much have to have everything, but it helps for recommendations
