The Döner party is actually a political party in Germany.

This I can give a shot: Because working in a certain or for a given employer job is a choice, but paying taxes is not. This makes paying taxes feel more unfair.

Also, you can calculate the amount of taxes, but only estimate the economic value of your work.

Opium is being consumed for at least 5000 years, and has only been banned (mostly) in the last 150 years. In the 19th century there were two opium wars between western powers and China because the latter banned the use and import of opium. So opium was definitely grandfathered and normalized not too long ago.

Finished the fifth book in the "dungeon crawler Carl" series, and decide to step away from that for a while. The fifth book was a lot longer than the previous four, and this doesn't work out for me (I know, just weeks ago I complained about the novella format of most murderbot books:)). After that read through "midnight black" by Mark Greaney, which was nice, but not the best in the gray man series imo. Now about a third through John Scalzi's "the collapsing empire". So far a nice book, but I liked most books in the "old man's war" series better.

Gezien in mijn dorp gedurende het hele jaar vuurwerk is te horen (en zien), met een piek van oktober tot en met januari, denk ik dat ook niet.

Yes, but keep the noise down, I don't want to hear it.

The bribes are real, and since it's a billionaire movement, they have the means to keep the cash flowing. The anger, hate and oppression is the tool to get people to vote them in, or at least to stop people voting them out.

Sure, but you'd have to be able to outspend Exxonmobile, the NRA, "big tech", health insurance companies and whatever Musk is. Meanwhile you have to maintain solidarity in your collective while somehow staying solvent.
