I think x86 is basically the only platform that's used ACPI

ARM and x86. From wikipedia:

Revision 5.0 of the ACPI specification was released in December 2011,[15] which added the ARM architecture support.

ETA: Sorry I was wrong. ACPI doesnt solve this*. Arm SystemReady SR/ES does and its why Ampere cpus can boot on linux on release without too much work.

Sadly its currently only used for iot/server stuff but hopefully it will eventually make its way to consumer tech. We need to raise awareness on this and pressure companies to commit to this standard.

*From what I read, WoA has full ACPI support but qcoms ACPI apis only work on Windows. [1 (ms link)][2]

~~Yeah its really unfortunate that most arm chips/devices use DTs instead of conforming to ACPI. However with ARM becoming more prominent on servers (and desktops), Im hoping this changes. There is now a push for ACPI on Arm since thats what companies running Arm on servers want. Ampere server cpus eg have ACPI support and arm now has docs on ACPI. I hope qualcomm is also forced to support ACPI. I think they will have to do it if they want to see their cpus being used in data centers and the like.~~

Saw this in the log:

Apr 04 13:47:27 kernel: nvme nvme1: Device not ready; aborting reset, CSTS=0x1

Seems you were right, there is some kind of device or connection issue.

could also be an issue with kf.solid.backends.udisks2

Something like lemmy gold but with public names? /hj

Also, related note, how easy is it to migrate from one distro to another? I am thinking about trying something else - maybe base Fedora or Arch - to hopefully have better performance.

You can backup your data and restore but will have to reinstall all your apps.

Also have you tried asking in the nobara discord? GE and other devs are in there so you likely to get help there.

so did you like it?

Nutomic:

This is implemented in the main branch now. If you want to develop a plugin for Lemmy, have a look at the RFC and the examples. If you have questions about plugin development, feel free to post in the Matrix dev chat, [email protected] or open an issue.

Examples in multiple languages: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-plugins#lemmy-plugins (only a few examples currently, more languages are possible including Python)

Anyone planning to start working on a plugin?

Thanks interesting stuff. swaylock and hyprlock seem pretty cool from a few videos I watched. Though none of these provide screen saver functionality afaics. I might be correct in thinking xfce4-screenserver is the only one.

How do they plan to stay afloat? Google street view api is not cheap.

has anyone tried it on wayland? are there any other screensavers for wayland? AFAIK this is the only screensaver that works on wayland.

v2.8, v2.9, v2.10 were all released recently after a few months hiatus (v2.7 was in Oct).

Most of the changes were bug fixes but v2.8 had new features too:

  • New visibility mode: Intelligent Auto Hide (aka Intellihide / Dodge Windows): in this mode, the dock only hides itself when there's a window covering it or there's a maximized window.
  • Supports LXQt (KWin) on Wayland: including special menu entries (e.g. Log Out), specific default launchers, setting wallpapers and separate config.
  • Task icon: Allow cycling backwards through window applications with CTRL: so left-clicking cycles forwards and CTRL + left-clicking cycles backwards.

Crystal Dock is a cool dock (desktop panel) for Linux desktop, with the focus on attractive user interface, being simple and easy to customize, and cross-desktop support.

The current version (version 2) supports KDE Plasma 6 and LXQt (KWin) on Wayland. Other desktop environments will be considered when they run on Wayland and provide sufficient APIs. The previous version (version 1) supports KDE Plasma 5, GNOME, LXQt, Cinnamon and MATE on X11.

I would like to backup some KDE settings but don't really know which files to copy from .config

Searching for their names in github.com/KDE has given me some idea about their purposes but I couldn't find any comments or documentation there either.

For context Autin (Github) is a shell history replacement that apparently provides a lot of extra functionality.

Has anyone used it? Im thinking of switching to it but Im worried about its impact on performance and if its worth it.
