Is there any retro consoles that you never lived up to their potential? where the games fell short of the hardware?.

Personally I feel that the NDS was under-utilized, as it was a fully 3d capable console, that was used mostly for 2d pixel art games, and platformers. When it was able to support full 3d platformers and even a fan remake of portal.

I've been revisiting some classic games lately, and while I love the Sega Genesis library, I can't help but find its sound chip a bit grating. There's something about the harsh, metallic tones and often scratchy quality that makes it hard to enjoy games at full volume. I know it has its fans, but compared to systems like the SNES or even some older consoles, it just seems unnecessarily rough.

Am I alone in this? Does anyone else struggle with the Genesis' audio, or is this part of its charm for you?

Thanks to Wiimmfi, Modded Wii's and any DS can still play online. even using Dolphin or MelonDS.

The video goes over Derick’s 2 year obsession with trying to get Faceball 2000 to work with 16 player multiplayer.

In short it works. But the video is well worth the watch as it goes in detail on why it hasn’t happened before.

Today, let's take a nostalgic trip down memory lane with a little "What if...?" scenario. Remember the Sega 32X? It was this ambitious add-on for the Sega Genesis that aimed to catapult the beloved console into next-gen territory. While it didn't quite hit its mark, it left us wondering: what other classic consoles could have benefited from a similar leap forward?

Let's imagine—what if the N64 had gotten an "N128" upgrade? Could it have kept up with the PS1 and Saturn in that fierce console war era? Or maybe there’s another platform itching for a second wind, like the SNES or even the beloved Game Boy!

What other consoles do you think should've received their own "next-gen" add-ons?

PlayStation is building a large-scale preservation vault called the PlayStation Studios Vault to safeguard over 30 years of gaming history. This ambitious project involves preserving more than 200 million files and approximately 650 TB of data on data tapes stored in actual mineshafts.

According to Garrett Fredley, a senior build engineer at PlayStation, the preservation effort includes not just backups, not just source code and source art, but everything that was ever related to a project we can possibly find. This means documentation, audio assets, prototype information, and more is being meticulously archived.

Access to this vault is extremely limited, with only a handful of people having permission, including those on the preservation team and members of IT. The oldest piece of material archived so far is a 1994 build for Arc the Lad, with current and future PS5 titles being added constantly.

While it’s unclear what plans PlayStation has for all this preserved material beyond ensuring its survival, there is hope that some of this rescued material might eventually find its way into future remasters and collections.

What's your opinion about data tape as a long-term storage medium? What do you hope PlayStation does with all those data?

In nearly every Mega Man game, Dr. Wily is captured at the end—usually after unleashing an army of killer robots and nearly destroying the world. And yet, by the next game, he’s back at it like nothing happened.

So what's the in-universe deal? Is the 20XX justice system just that incompetent or corrupt? Is there some official lore reason he's constantly released or escapes? Or are we just supposed to suspend disbelief for the sake of Saturday-morning logic?

Curious what theories or canon explanations people have!

I’ve been replaying though the Pokémon games for the first time since they came out.

I just finished Gold and started Emerald last week. I was really looking forward to it as I always hear great things about emerald.

But I have not been enjoying it. I feel like I’m constantly under leveled and even when I have a higher level than other Pokémon, I feel weaker.

The map has been a bit annoying going in circles for the first half of the game. I am at the 5th gym now, and decided to drop it and move to gen 4.

I also have not been happy with the team I built. It seems that the move sets I have are not really that good. I’m at level 20-30 and I’m just getting my first good moves for some of my team.

BAFTA's recent public poll has crowned Yu Suzuki's Shenmue as The Most Influential Video Game of All Time. This surprising result has ignited a fervent discussion, with fans and detractors alike debating the game's enduring legacy.

A Dreamcast Classic Redefined

  • Shenmue was praised for its innovative open-world approach, detailed settings, and narrative complexity that set new standards for interactive storytelling. Yu Suzuki's vision of Yokosuka is celebrated as an astonishingly vivid portrayal of real-life Japan, influencing countless developers in the years since.

  • Shenmue was also notable for introducing Quick Time Events (QTEs), a mechanic that has since become ubiquitous across various genres of video games.

The Top 21 List Unveiled

Joining Shenmue at the top of BAFTA's countdown were classics like:

  • Doom - Pioneering 3D shooter and genre-defining work
  • Super Mario Bros. - Establishing a blueprint for modern platformers
  • Half-Life - Innovations in narrative integration, a hallmark of first-person shooters
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - One of the most revered games ever made for its gameplay and storytelling

A Mixed Reception Amongst Fans

While many consider Shenmue an epochal achievement, some critique it for its awkward controls and clunky dialogue. However, over time, these aspects have often been viewed as part of the game's charm rather than hindrances.

What do you make of the BAFTA’s choice? Is Shenmue truly the most influential video game ever created? What game would you put at the top of the list?

Williams' success with APX led him to create several games for Synapse Software, including the beloved Alley Cat and the incomprehensible fantasy masterpiece Necromancer, before moving to the Amiga, where he created the experimental Mind Walker and his ambitious "cultural simulation" Knights of the Crystallion.

Necromancer, Williams' later creation for the Atari 800, plays like a fever dream—you control a druid fighting off spiders while growing magic trees and battling an undead wizard. It makes absolutely no sense by conventional standards, but it's brilliant in its otherworldliness.

"The first games that I did were very hard to explain to people and they just kind of bought it on faith," Williams said in a 1989 interview with YAAM (Yet Another Amiga Magazine), suggesting this unconventional approach started early. That willingness to create deeply personal, almost surreal experiences defined Williams' work throughout his career.

Sure, the fact that new Game Boy games are coming out in 2025 is incredibly exciting, but I bet you didn't think you'd be seeing a new game complete-in-box for the Nokia NGage?

Say what you want about Nokia's entry into the handheld world (and Nokia's stupidly timed release date competing with the Game Boy Advance), it's still an interesting bit of kit and has a loyal cult following of gamers who still wonder 'what could have been' if the NGage had managed to defy all the odds and become a commercial success.
