First, do what experts were saying and say this is stupid. But since they seemed primed for bullshit, the most obvious would be to take the explicit tariffs on US products, use any of a number of ways to calculate the impact of non-tariff barriers that actually make sense, and sum both of them. And then set the formula on fire because tariff wars are stupid.

We didn't have the Intel 8080 chip that the Altair computer ran on, So Paul got to work writing a program that would simulate one on Harvard's PDP-10 mainframe. This allowed us to test our software without needing an actual Altair.

So, basically:

We are going to write a compiler, but first we are going to write a Virtual Machine from scratch because the hardware is too expensive.

As I always said, the US never cared about the defense expenditure of European countries except as a way to bolster US exports.

It was always about extortion and never about defense.
