For those who want to put the "buy" into buying European, German company Volla phone are the only phone producer I know of where you can currently buy a new device with Ubuntu Touch installed out of the box. I haven't tried it myself, but if anyone is interested they can check for experiences at the ubports forum.

I installed Ubuntu Touch on an old Nexus 6p I revived from the dead a while ago, and it's a great user experience. :)

Oh damn, you're right!

But sometimes on the fediverse there's a "copy link to post/comment on original instance", which I sometimes find to be useful. But this is already pretty great!

That's true - it would be useful to have a "copy direct link" option in the menu bar for each comment. @[email protected]

I just put together my first feed today, collecting more than 60 US protest communities into one feed: https://piefed.social/f/50501

In the drop-down menus on top I can choose between either the communities I'm subscribed to, or the feeds I subscribe to. I can subscribe to public feeds compiled by other users, including users on other PieFed instances. I can also make a private feed if I don't feel like sharing it.

It's pretty great. Would absolutely recommend.

There are two main instances:
https://piefed.social/ and https://feddit.online/
There's no mobile app/APK support at the moment, but it's coming soon.

First thing that came to mind is this (for a horizontal layout), but not a perfect fit for several reasons. Nevertheless a classic.

Signpost from Asterix and Obelix. The left side of the sign is worn and overgrown, pointing to Gaul; the right side is well-kept and polished, pointing to Helvetia

I'm very happy with my classic Wüsthof. That said, I'll probably buy Victorinox next time I'm out to get a knife - I'm just too darn happy with my Swiss Army knife.

I can't help but think that the web UI should always be the point of entry, and apps should enter the user experience at a later stage.

If not, users won't understand what platform they are actually using, and they will inevitably get confused at some point when something does not work the way it should. Even if the app is perfect now and everything works, an update to Lemmy could still break something.

Then again, I'm a fan of web UIs in general, and I'm terribly old fashioned.

Sounds like the user is having problems with the Voyager app?

In either case, I don't think there's any use for the pointless hostility. If it's an antifascist who just gets frustrated with technology, that doesn't mean they couldn't be valuable members of the community. And it's not immediately obvious, nor easy to explain, to non-technical users why they should be more patient with Lemmy than with any other platform. It's quite common to see people on Lemmy or Mastodon who are active users, and still don't understand that the platform they are on is not run by capitalists/how it is fundamentally different from centralized platforms.

I'm not sure, I've met some lovely people whose technical incompetence is nothing short of incredible. And if you try signing up for an instance you've been recommended and the sign-up process is broken, I understand that it can be disheartening.

Sure, Reddit is full of bad actors who just want to discredit alternatives, and clearly these people are not trying hard and they probably don't completely understand what Lemmy is, but I think it's still worth listening to their concerns.

At this point I'm willing to believe your mother and cousin with downs are both more likely to figure things out than the average 20-something, for the simple reason that they are not used to everything being so goddamn easy and not offering the slightest resistance. When you see the discourse on Reddit, a lot of people seem to be unaware of the difference between platforms and apps. Which shouldn't be a problem, if they can contribute to a meaningful discussion about whatever they do have an interest in.

One criticism is that in some models the manual release of the back seat doors is near impossible to find, rendering them a death trap.

Every subdomain under europa.eu belongs to EU institutions.

Such an incredible win for open source. I need to get my ass to the cinema and see it.
