It pains me to see my younger family members getting caught up in all of this, while most of the world's Governments seem hellbent on looking the other way - or worse using it as an excuse to give themselves extra surveillance powers (cough age verification cough) while doing nothing much to solve the main issue

I understand the intention, but I'd argue high school is where its at the most corrosive. High school is where kids are forming their independent learning habits - we're already seeing the effects of AI becoming a crutch at this point in the game.

It makes even the smartest kids thick as pig shit because they start to depend on it, in the same way a lot our generation's handwriting went down the shitter because of computers.

Yes, I do agree that you have a level of personal responsibility towards yourself - and that you owe it to yourself to make the best of the hand you're dealt.

But turning 18 doesn't suddenly absolve your parents of their failings. If they failed to teach Anon the basic life skills that would help them to be a proper member of society, then that is still their failure - even if it is a failure being further exacerbated by Anon themselves.

A good parent would've forced Anon to learn those skills, and wouldn't just stand-by going "they're an adult now, not my problem" - nor would they coddle them and allow them to be a NEET. Both are forms of neglectful parenting, as I said its a lifetime job.

Being a parent is a life long job that you chose when you had a kid, so that latter take is wild.

But in any case, even if I agreed with you, do you not believe parents have a responsibility to teach their children basic life skills? You brought a kid into the world, you should at the very least teach it how to look after itself.

I imagine its a reverse survivor-ship bias - where the odd ones out who purposefully went for duck lips or had allergic reactions stick out like a sore thumb, and thus we don't notice all the people that got subtle jobs done on their lips.

Similar to getting teeth done. We easily notice the people who got shiny white freakishly straight "Turkey Teeth", but not the others who opted for more natural looking teeth replacements.
