This is an EVEN BIGGER opportunity than AMD had with Intel to have a "Ryzen moment".

With trash uplifts (5070 may not even beat the 4070Super) and blatantly swapping of the names of their GPUs (the 5080 is XX70-level hardware -- at best).... Nvidia has effectively doubled the price of GPUs in a few short years.

If AMD decided to finally not just-follow-Nvidia, I would RUN to buy a $550-600 RX9070XT with RTX5080 performance.

"$550-600? That's unrealistic, Brad, you fuckin' idiot!"

Fuck off. $1,000 RTX5080 performance is twice what the $500 two-gens-old RTX3070 had. And also....

  • The $599 RTX4070 Super had twice the performance of the two-gens-old $499 RTX2070 Super
  • The $499 RTX3070 had twice the performance of the two-gens-old $379 GTX1070
  • The $499 RTX2070 Super had twice the performance of the two-gens-old $329 GTX970
  • The $379 GTX1070 had twice the performance of the two-gens-old $399 GTX770

Saying nginx with a "hard g" can get you into some real trouble...

My concern is basically the usual "Nvidia hates Linux".

Also:

Nvidia GPUs are currently in beta with major caveats

Seriously considering a switch to Bazzite on my actual gaming PC.

Me having a RTX3070 is holding me back, though. Maybe AMD will have a decent, not-too-stupidly-expensive card in the 9070XT. Really don't want to spend more than $500-600 on a GPU. And I really don't want to replace it until I can get something with at least twice the performance.

Also the Android TV app is AWESOME!

I dunno....

There's a transcoding bug in the Android TV version of the Jellyfin client where transcoding a video with 7.1 audio breaks playback. Even with a Pull Request out there that fixes it (by matching the behavior of other Jellyfin clients), the issue got closed as "not planned". The continued suggestion continues to be "just force everything to play in stereo".

I don't have unlimited bandwidth, so plenty of my stuff gets transcoded in Plex. I can't, in good, conscience, switch my friends & family (most of who use Android TV) over to Jellyfin.

A year after consoles.

Rockstar knows how to get that double dip more than anyone else.

Kid-Me could somehow navigate that final Zelda II dungeon based on nothing but dumb luck.

Now I can barely get past World 1-1 in SMB.

(I played the shit out of Zelda II.... and I liked it.)

Mostly Docker.

Portainer and plugging Docker Compose XML into Portainer stacks makes Docker stupid-simple. (personally speaking as a stupid person that does this)

Cloudflare tunnels for stuff people other than you might want to access.

Tailscale if it's only you.

Reverse proxy & port forwarding for sharing media over Jellyfin without violating the Cloudflare Tunnel ToS.

Oh, I hear you...

Filters can make it so the Mastodon feed doesn't force you to want to walk out into traffic.

Due to a recent containerd 1.7.24 update, your /dev/net/tun:/dev/net/tun mapping needs to be moved from the volumes section to the devices section.

Don't be like me and realize this AFTER you leave home for the holidays.
