So their idea is taking a real story and writing it up as if it were an Onion-type story. I get it. OK. I can't say I like it. But apparently that's a thing now.

Well that sounds like more of a national security threat than a private email server.

Fair enough and I'm sorry if I sounded judgy. I I know it doesn't apply to everyone, but I think a major reason for Amazon's success is that they've made acquiring things too convenient. A lot of people (I know I did) fall into the trap of over-consumption. I've come to conclude that spending my money ought to come with a little friction.

I do this thing where if I need something, I go to a store and buy it. It has resulted in a lot less buying of useless stuff that I didn’t really need and ends up just taking up space. YMMV

This sounds more like a stalker than an aide.

He also used "premium ritual economy," which I just...bleh..

That's so weird. I haven't gotten any of these vague confirmation emails. Oh, that's right. I remember why. Because I don't buy a thing from that fucking oligarch's website.

Now that's fucked up. I don't care who you are.

[–] Octavio@piefed.social 6 points 3 days ago

Me either. Feels weird to be complaining about it on the internet though. It's almost like the solution is self-evident. Oh, well. It'll come to me.

If it'll mow down bollards, it'll mow down toddlers. It can't distinguish between the two.

Let's be careful out there!

This looks really interesting. And I can't help thinking there's a certain poetic justice to showing films about human rights, in Taiwanese no less, in the memorial for the dictator who slaughtered thousands and tried to crush Taiwanese identity. 😉

Ugh. I can't believe we're still tripping over this. There was never any "One China" policy that stated Taiwan was part of China. This was about CKS's pipe dream of "retaking the mainland," which, frankly, had already long been dead 50 years ago when countries shifted their recognition from Taipei to Beijing. Yeah, there's one China. And one Taiwan. Get over it.

This is great to see. Taiwan's high speed rail is a great way to travel, but lately you can tell its popularity is straining capacity. All the trains are full, and often sell out during holidays. A boost of 25% peak capacity would be very welcome!

This has been a long time coming. I'm happy to see this for the Siraya community. I hope the other indigenous groups seeking this recognition also get it.

Well, this is disappointing. 😡

Unable to solve the enduring mystery of why Taiwan does not attract tourists in the desired numbers (despite the collective screams of all of us knowledgeable long-term foreigners watching the government flail uselessly at the problem), policymakers have decided to establish a Taiwan Tourism Institu
