I don't think people who voted read the description, well done dude! ๐Ÿ™Œ (Title: Homemde Classic Chicken Nuggets, would have been better)

Hiya!

This is probably more simple than what I'm making into, but I want to be sure, so here we go:

Currently in the market for a good HDMI cable, however, I am curious as to what I need to know (as I know nothing about these cables) before buying one. So my use case for this scenario is a 3M long HDMI cable that will connect my desktop(Nobara or Bazzite) to my TV (that has Nvidia Shield). This is for easy access to couch gaming. My desktop has a RX 6700 XT card, but unsure about the specifications of the TV other than it being a 70inch one (can try to find this if its relevant), but I am not looking to stream 4k. So let me know what kinda specs/details i need to look for in a HDMI cable for this :)))

PS. I tried setting up Sunlight + Moonlight, but honestly seemed like a bit too much configuration for my liking, but might give it a go again later on. I've also only got access to medium-speed Wifi atm, so this isn't optional.

If you live in Europe I could probably send you some.

Hiya, I've got a desktop (connected to wifi), and a server (without a networking card), and I do not have access to Ethernet/or the router. However, I do have a networking switch - and was wondering if I could bridge the WiFi from my desktop(Nobara), to the Switch, and have my other devices such as Raspberry Pi and my main server connect to that. If thats possible please let me know how, or point me to some resources, I believe I have to touch iptables in this case, but have never tweaked those before.

This is a very temporary solution for not having access to a router. But gotta live like this for 5 months, so gotta find a solution to get WiFi on my server, as cheap as possible.

Why do you include the CC link in all of your comments...?

Found this one online while browsing for what cats shouldn't eat. However I feel like this area is quite controversial and opinionated. Also feels like half the websites are written by AI and riddled with ads. So if anyone has a good source as to what cats should avoid then let me know.

Anyways, I found this nice illustration, but wanted to hear with you peeps whether you have any experience regarding these food items.

Also what's your take on milk/sour milk for cats? My previous cat loved it so much, and she aged until she was 17 years old, and never seemed to have a problem with it. Also asked the vet at the time and she said it was OK. However every other website I visit tell to never give milk(dairy) to cats. So which is it? Does it just depend on the cat?

Not seen one of my favourite projects listed yet, so Jellyfin!!

Edit, forgot this was about privacy. Wopsi. But they do have better privacy than say plex.... If that counts ๐Ÿ˜…

Hiya, quickly wondering if there is a big difference between speeds when using a vpn compared to using a proxy server solution? Anyone got any experience here or good articles to refer to?

Thanks ๐ŸŒป

Warp is the modern, Rust-based terminal with AI built in so you and your team can build great software, faster.

Believe this terminal has been out for a while on other platforms, but just hit the linux market too. Personally been looking forwards to this one for a while, but don't have any prior experience with it - so kinda hoping its as good as it looks.

Link: https://www.warp.dev/blog/warp-for-linux

Edit: Some fair points in comments that terminals shouldn't need cloud login. Personally thought that was an optional thing for people who wanted sync capability.

Does Privacy count? I always I try to encourage people to treat themselves to better privacy, to step away from big corpo platforms and use more Foss services. Doesn't stick with a lot of em. ๐Ÿ˜”

Cat Litter Issue (lemmy.world)

I do feel a little silly for asking about this, but here we go...

So, about one month ago we adopted a little kitten, she is now 3months and a bit old. Been having her inside for the most part with some occasional walks outside to get her used to being outside, as she is an outdoor breed and will eventually be allowed to walk freely in or out. For as long as she is for now indoors, we've gotten her used to using the litter box, one of them with a small hatch to get inside, which she is good at using. BUT, whenever she decides to to curl one down, it f*cking reeks, it smells quite bad. I've had other cats before and none of them have smelt like this... Obviously we get rid of the shit asap, but then also clean her with a wet cloth so that she run around smelling equally bad and to teach her to was herself.

We're not feeding her anything unusual, she mainly eats this dry food(which was quite expensive) https://www.specific-diets.co.uk/cat/everyday-diets/kitten-fpd-gb. Furthermore, we're using some silicon cat sand, as that was what we got recommended.

Edit: Forgot to add an essential part to this!

This is the litterbox in use; Litterbox

She tries to dig her shit down, but instead of digging it down into the sand or put sand over it, shes just scratching the sides of the cat litter box. Also after going out of the litter box, shes wiping her paws on the floor. But yeah, the scratching of the box inside is very loud and doesnt seem normal either. Is the box too small for her? Or could this be related to the sand of choice?

So, anyone got any tips or tricks here? Is this normal-ish? Obviously shit smells... but this seems almost out of the ordinary... Does the type of cat sand matter a lot?

Wow wow! Absolutely love this, especially the neofetch edit, to the guy smoking!

Hey woodies,

I'm not a woodworker by any means, but figured it could be here to ask about my question. I love and own some wooden kitchen utensils and cutlery, but want to it to last as long as possible. I never put it in the dishwasher, always wash by hand. However I have heard its possible to oil wooden utensils and such to make it last longer, I assume it prevents the water from deteriorating the wood(?)

So my questions are:

  • What oil should I use?
  • Do I use cheap oil?
  • How do I oil them? Apply with paper, or let them sit in oil over time?

Appreciate any tips or tricks to this!

Have a wonderful day ๐ŸŒป

Edit, thanks for all the answers and advice, I'll research properly before buying either type of oil.

I often hear, "You should never cheap out on a good office chair, shoes, underpants, backpack etc.." but what are some items that you would feel OK to cheap out on?

This can by anything from items such as: expensive clothing brands to general groceries.

Hi, im a bit new to homelabbing, and recently bought a server - on a second hand market. The computer came with the following component, but im a bit unsure what it does exactly. It was sitting in one of the GPU slots on the Motherboard. I feel like it has something to do with adding HDDs. Could somebody please clarify this one for me? Much appreciated!

Some people change their socks every single day, to me that's a little to much. I'm more of a 2-3days kinda guy. Is changing socks each day absolutely necessary?

Edit: Obviously something is wrong with me, I'll take some time to rethink my life decisions and buy more socks! ๐Ÿ˜… Edit2: I mostly wear wool socks, I hope that justifies this a bit..
