That and there are extra flight regulations for flights passing directly over the north pole due to the harsh conditions. Airlines tend to prefer going around unless going over is worth the effort.

Quebec government, specifically. Other provinces only require government services to be provided in both French and English but private businesses can mostly do what they want. Quebec requires private business to be conducted in French unless the customer requests service in a different language. Any non-French text or speech made to a customer before they request it can be seen as a violation. They can be a little overzealous at times.

You laugh but the Quebec government attempted to fine an Italian restaurant for having the names of their dishes in Italian, many of which have no French name.

The qipao is definitely in the running for hottest traditional dress.

"Ugh veggies again! I want pizza!"

"You should be thankful you have veggies. There are starving children in Africa."

"Whataboutism!"

I was attempting to compare and contrast. How should I do that without "whataboutism"?

he is not a net positive on society, just like nazis.

Clearly being narcissistic is not as bad as spreading hate and bigotry. Calling this guy all kinds of names and saying he's the same as a Nazi because he thinks he's the smartest guy ever is overkill.

His views aren't offensive, they're just different. It's like a guy saying pineapple on pizza is terrible and anyone who likes it has terrible taste and then deletes and bans people who say they like pineapple on pizza. It's weird behaviour but to say they're not a net positive to society is crazy.

This guy runs an animal rescue shelter and pays for his (American) chat moderators' healthcare. He helps people with no experience get into game development.

One of the top comments in this thread is:

I couldn't give less of a shit what this dumbfuck thinks about anything.

Why all the hate? Because he argues about World of Warcraft strategies? There are definitely people who are negatives to society, but I do not think Pirate Software is one of those people. I do think he has an attitude, but that doesn't make him the equivalent of a Nazi.

It's not hypocrisy, it's conservatism!

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect

The only one I know of shut down and the admin posted this message:

I knew Lemmy had its challenges, but I hoped it would evolve for the better. Sadly after 2 years, the culture of censorship through defederation has only grown stronger.

So they shutdown because they couldn't federate with any other instances and considered that censorship. A few people in that thread linked to another instance I've never heard of as an alternative and that one 404s if you type in the address so I guess they're all still on reddit and twitter.

Please explain?

He's a pretentious asshole, who thinks he is better than everyone else.

Right, but there are people who are openly Nazis. I get that he's got an ego but he doesn't seem to have hateful views. I just find the amount of hate he attracts just for being a know it all seems way out of proportion.
