Games is the one example that actually makes sense though. The game code size hasn't really increased tremendously, but the uncompressed assets have only gotten more detailed and more numerous.
The biggest difference is that European countries have parliamentary democracies. This means that everyone has a party that, at least to some degree, fits their needs and wants. I’m sure that if Americans realistically had more than two choices, things would be different.

That is exactly why Chromebooks were (are?) so popular. You got a cheap laptop with an easy-to-use OS without having to do any install. And let's be real here, most people don't need anything more than a web browser.
Go for Bazzite. It's basically Steam OS but with extra stuff that makes it "just work", even on an Nvidia GPU.
Once Valve releases their official Steam OS, you can always switch to it.
