Sees thumbnail... skip.

I DGAF who the creator is. If you use a video thumbnail that screams "engagement bait", then I'm going anywhere else.

Every single time.

Are you in northern or western Europe? As I discovered when I moved to the UK, it's virtually impossible to get stone fruit that doesn't require a hammer and chisel, and are crunchy like apples. 😬

Elsewhere in the world, they're juicy, soft and prone to spraying everywhere. Which I think is the intended audience of this strip.

Same with Coca-Cola and others. They get it for free from local governments the world over and then charge for it, whether it just be bottled as is or something made using it.

And yet those governments still get (re-)elected...

FTA: After being told no, Anthropic are suggesting, with a straight face, use of robots.txt to let them know what they can and cannot slurp for free. The same file that has existed for many years and which, famously, has been ignored by their crawlers from the very beginning.

"Okay, so your front door is locked. But have you considered leaving a key under the mat? Just in case..." 🙄

I've not given AF about footy since I was in colts and saw how monstrous parents are (yanno, "Rip his eyes out, Billy!") and have only watched AFL finals as a bonding ceremony with my step-dad.

And I live halfway around the world now, but I can't hate this. It's cool. 👍🏻

This is the battleground.

A company does what it wants for its shareholders, and its customers decide if they're willing to accept it or not. There's one company and X million customers. Fight!

There have been lots.

But my most recent was Moshoku Tensei and its current "future timeline (of the MC)" stuff. (I hope it's just a "vision").

I'm a middle aged dude and watching what happens to his 2 wives and then his lost love, Eris. I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried (and am now, typing this) and lost actual sleep over it. You're (probably) laughing, and I'm amazed at how much I didn't know I cared about the characters.

Storytelling, when done well, is powerful. Seriously. 🤯

This is profoundly... meaningless?

"Data centres bad"... does it factor in anything beyond popular perception? Sounds like it's just "tell me your 'feelings' about..." Fuck off.

Can't speak for the person you're replying to, but I always check the F-Droid repository first, too... but not using the F-Droid app because it's been a sub-par choice for years.

Droid-ify is what I use, but there are others. Many include/allow other FOSS repos and have additional useful features.

The final paragraph:

...some families may have tried to hide the deaths of elderly relatives in order to claim their pensions.

IIRC NHK (via maybe Japanology?) did a piece on this a few years ago, and the number of centenarians whose death had been hidden to keep their benefits flowing was staggering.

Though I think they chose the low hanging fruit: those aged 110 (or 120?) and higher.

Just fired up Voyager on Android to discover a notification-style marker above the settings/gear icon. Opening Settings doesn't provide any clue as to why. Taking it further by tapping each of the top level menu items also doesn't show why.

Okay, Voyager. Keep your secrets...

Edit: F-Droid showed that Voyager had recently updated, so I tapped the recent apps button and swiped up to close Voyager. When I reopened it, the marker was gone.

Posted this to AskLemmy (https://lemmy.world/post/17088629), but thought it worth posting here:

I use old.lemmy.world as my interface and I've noticed that roughly every month I'm:

  • Forcibly logged out and have to do the re-auth dance for no apparent reason.
  • Everything I've set in Settings is forgotten: Default Listing reverts to All, Default Post Sort reverts to Hot, and so on.

My browser is set to retain cookies and such, so it's not PEBKAC/PICNIC. Why is Lemmy doing a nuke-from-low-orbit every month (roughly) despite me using it as recently as the day before? Why aren't my preferences being retained between logins?

I suspect the recent update (https://mastodon.world/@LemmyWorld/112706805419064266) explains the latest event, but the questions still stand.
