And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

I stopped watching the Big bang theory around season 3.

And I think I've only seen one game of thrones episode...

Raspberry pi os , it can also be run on non raspberry pis*. all the recommended packages in its menu (libre office?) that should get you a nice os.

Some torrenting software to ensure you can help share it around.

I recently heard of something called a 'Pirate box' which is a WiFi router without a password and storage attached for people to upload and download stuff to / from .

I wouldn't do it myself, but if it was a country town, it could be something similar to a virtual notice board in the pub.

  • Might as well get Debian and Ubuntu too.

The main things i learnt from vim are Escape :q and ^Z. Not a dig on vim, but it was quite a learning curve at the time when nano has been good enough for just about everything i do day to day.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I dont know what that acronym means. I just use nano as a basic text editor, its automatically showing me different colours XML now. I have used it as a text editor for code before, but if i knew i was going to be coding lots, id look at others like vim and emacs. Me using it is a result of it being the quickest tool to get the job done at the time 'efficiently' and i know there are more powerful ones out there.

Lamingtons are a cake dipped in chocolate sauce dipped in dessicated coconut, sometimes filled with cream (you might know it as thickened cream, or whipped cream. I've heard shows where people put cream in coffee...)

I just had a look at their menus and they don't have Chicken Parmigianas which is common in pubs over here.

Oven cooked chicken. Covered In crumb, then put under the griller with a marinara (tomato) sauce on top and cheese. Chicken Kiev (crumbed chicken with garlic/herb butter inside).

Fairy bread isn't exactly a good, but something that could be found at a kid's birthday.

If I was travelling up North id want to try Poutine and a real Deep Dish Pizza.

I imagine most people's reaction to Vegemite is like my recent first reaction to Wasabi. If I get too much out of the jar with the knife, odds are it is t going back in.

May I suggest other culinary delicacies from our part of the world such as Lamingtons, Fairy Bread and Tim Tams.( Bonus points for a Tim Tam Slam)

While I don't agree with the other replier to you, I will caution anyone who wants to try it that they only need a small amount spread on toast and if you go slapping it on like Hazelnut spread, you'll get a bit of a surprise.

Edit And today I learned vegemite has a fortified b vitamin version...

I tried, but when I clicked create, it didn't proceed or give an error message, more details below.

I'm looking to create a new community, so i clicked on the 'Create Community' button on the top.

I entered in a community name (all lowercase, no spaces) and then a display name.

I added a short description and selected english.

I clicked create and got a hourglass like icon for about a second and then nothing. A new page didnt appear, i checked my profile and cannot see the new community name.

I checked a post a few hours ago in Lemmy World support and someone else is having trouble.

Ive also tried on two devices, desktop & mobile.

p.s. on mobile there is a issue that could result in butting heads where if you hover over the create community textbox it gives text of 'lowercase, underscores and no spaces' but these constrains are not listed in the ? next to Create community. When i was on mobile i wasnt able to get the hovertext and if it was my first time creating a community, i may not have been able to see this info.

Thanks.

Was out on a walk earlier today and wanted to do something sort of Christmas related and try and help people pass on virtual presents in the form of community suggestions.

What is a community you think more people should be subscribed to and why?

My answer is https://lemmy.world/c/superbowl ( Superb Owl, not Superbowl. It's a community about birds, not americal football) and there is frequently high quality images of owls posted which I find cute and I wish I could take shots like that. P.s. I know birds aren't everyone's thing, but I wanted to use it as an example.

And I the community is NSFW but the name isn't obvious, flag it as NSFW.

I was out recently noticed two Tawnys in a tree, i was surpirsed as the last i saw any was around a year ago and it was just one where i’d always seen two together.

These two looked very tired. The one on the left was more awake and i felt like i was being glared at. ‘Dude, I’m watching you, I don’t like you and if you come closer, we might have to move, and we really, really don’t want to do that’.

So i came close enough to get this shot and left them in peace but am keeping an eye out for them the next time in the area.

Mods: Sorry if this doesnt fit the sub, but I think people commonly mistake Tawny's for Owls, and they're the closest animals to owls Im likely to see. The image is Original Content (taken by me). Let me know and i'll post to birding or just pics.

Hi Lemmy.World Admins and Support Staff,

I like this place a lot and wanted to give you a heads up pollies down under passed some new laws.

The govt wants a ban on social media for everyone under 16. This week was the last sitting week of parliament and a few bills were passed by both houses and are set to become law. (See link).

I'm not after any immediate reaction or actions, but looking to bring it to your attention for you to discuss (edit:internally) how you would react. I haven't seen the legislation and don't know how this is meant to be mechanized and it seems pretty hard to do.

Some other tech giants have already made statements as this appears to be a worldwide first.

Edit: I might have a look at the laws text and put some details here as a comment

I recently did some freelance work and due to a misunderstanding of what would actually be delivered, I decided to draft up a short but written agreement for future clients.

Although a written discussion was had about what was to be done, it appears both parties had different ideas about what would happen.

Im largely dealing with a client I get on well with and wanted to keep things simple and the template I've got is:-

Event name:

Event dates:

Overview of services to be be provided onsite:

Specific services (if any) : (shots considered essential)

Dependencies:

Deliverables: (quantity, format , delivery timeline)

Copyright: (stay with photographer or rights to be signed over)

Post event services: (any editing that may take significant time)

Cost and payment schedule: (booking fee, payment milestones)

Limitation of Liability: under no circumstances shall I be considered liable for more than the agreed cost of services to be provided.

Travel arrangements: (these might be omitted from what is sent to the client but should be considered)

Accommodation:

Food / Incidentals:

Is there anything you would add ?

Edit: if it was something I'd consider for use with the general public then I would go through a lot more rigour and probably involve lawyers.

This young koala was still new to climbing on its own and was moving slowly and mum was nearby on another branch. It was moving to eat some leaves.

It managed to find itself under the branch at some point, but got on top again and carried on.

If you're considering upgrading to 4.6 and recursively importing is important to you, you might want to hold off.

I recently wanted to import a whole lot of files and saw it presented the files when recursively import was ticked, but when i clicked on Import files , the interface said X files imported instantly and no files were imported.

I know there's a formal bug reporting framework, and I'm not posting this to somehow get the issue fixed, it appears to have been recognised earlier and now fixed in the nightly builds. (I built 4.6, and since built todays/yesterdays).

The purpose of this post isn't a dig at the developers, but to warn anyone who might be considering an upgrade. If i knew it was an issue, i'd have deferred upgrading. (Some time was spent fault finding as i was accessing files for the first time from a NAS)

I understand that there is likely going to be a 4.6.1 released about a month or two after 4.6, so it should be soon.
