Thanks for mentioning it! Guess that takes care of my main point for allowing such games here.
I wouldn't personally object to the community becoming "visual novels (and other IF)", especially while posting volume is low.
Disclaimer: This is my personal opinion and not an official stance, that's something we'd have to decide on.
If we go by the the visual novel database definition then the answer is no. Personally, I wouldn't really mind.
If they do have illustrations and there's no better, existing community for that, text adventures could help diversify the content here (at least temporarily, until there's enough interest to split them into its own thing) as well as increase the awareness about this format.
I do think however there should be some kind of filter, like having enough visuals to fudge the definition if you squint a bit. There needs to be some balance between hard boundaries and watering down the purpose of this community.
That's just me though. If someone has stronger feelings on this topic I'm open to opinions on that.
Thanks! Will not post them here. I do wish Lemmy was big enough to have a splinter for IF though. I'm not interested in adventure games or point and click and hate walking sims, but I do like interactive fiction and puzzle games which are allowed there.
Even having proper tags could be a start (though only for mobile apps at the moment). I agree though, as cool as Fediverse is the lack of users can be a real downside at times.
Do you have any particular text adventures you'd recommend? My experience with this format is rather limited but I'm always interested in trying out new games.
The ones I would have recommended were ones I played in the past completely for free, and have since been paywalled. The one I wanted to post is one I still need to try :)
Fair enough, I guess I'll just stalk the adventure games community for recommendations.
