Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

Donald Trump issued an executive order stripping collective bargaining rights from about 700,000 federal workers, citing a "national security" exemption in the 1978 Civil Service Reform Act.

The order targets unions at major departments, including Defense, Energy, and Veterans Affairs.

The American Federation of Government Employees and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees condemned the move as illegal and vowed legal action.

Union leaders accused the administration of undermining workers' rights to benefit billionaire interests and called the decree the largest union-busting effort in U.S. history.

Biden seems pretty good now, right?

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 47 points 11 months ago (7 children)

Another executive order. What does this guy think he is, king?

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 27 points 11 months ago

Yes! Because, practically speaking, he is one.

[–] HighFructoseLowStand@lemm.ee 21 points 11 months ago

He does and thus far nobody with the power to say otherwise has.

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

That reminds me of a tweet I just saw from the White House celebrating the fact that he's signed more executive orders than any president in history at this point by far. Which is... fine I guess but just seems like a really really strange thing to be super proud of to me.

Tweet in question

... Is this the first time you've heard of Donald Trump?!?!?!

[–] frunch@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's what i was thinking when people first started supporting his run for the presidency in 2016. I just assumed it was common knowledge that he was a blatant con/grifter/sleazeball. I guess i didn't realize those would be taken as positive traits by a bunch of self-proclaimed "Christians" lol

[–] InvertedParallax@lemm.ee 7 points 11 months ago

It's worse than that.

All the coastal elites thought he was garbage.

Which was incontrovertible proof he was the messiah reborn.

Vive le roi!

[–] CalipherJones@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

His base called him God emperor 4 or 5 years ago. Wouldn't be surprised if an egomaniac like him took it to heart.

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

Who says you can't tell if its sarcasm if its text?

[–] Noite_Etion@lemmy.world 43 points 11 months ago

These threats will not work. Americans will not be intimidated or silenced.

Are you sure? Seems like Trump is able to do anything he wants.

There's a thing unions do when you try to fuck with them that he isn't going to like.

Imagine 700k government employees just upping and fucking off because of how much of a giant dumbass you are. He'll still not realise the smell in the room is him, though.

[–] JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca 18 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's what he wants them to do...

[–] knightly@pawb.social 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

And once they do it, he'll very quickly learn where real power comes from.

[–] pleasegoaway@lemm.ee 3 points 11 months ago

Nah. He’ll just privatize their work sectors to the highest bidders.

Many unions are quite conservative, and also presidents of unions often support the GOP. I believe the USPS president loves to suck off trump

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 11 months ago

DeJoy. He is quitting or maybe already has by now. He was terrible. Should have been fired by Biden day one.

[–] sporkler@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Is that how this works? I declare a 3 day workweek!

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I mean, so, he wants a general strike?

I assume then Putin wants a general strike.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

Putin gives approval for trump to order nuclear strike on Americans

Really going full billionaire class uh

[–] I_Cant_Even@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Those calling for a strike, or think a strike from federal workers would help seem to be missing some info. Federal workers sign a contract giving up their right to strike. All federal workers who would strike are forfeiting their jobs and source of income. Is that fact being factored in when yall are calling for a strike to set things in motion to enact change? As always, free Palestine.

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 11 months ago

Honestly, the most effective thing would be a general strike from everyone except the federal workers. Just grind everything to a halt until the oligarchs get Trump back in line.

[–] Apricot@lemm.ee -2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He can EO all he wants, the judges will decide if it's legal.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 11 points 11 months ago

That only matters if there’s someone around to enforce it. And often times, by the time proceedings are finished, the damage has already been done.
