Highest level of fuckup imaginable so far…

[–] [email protected] 85 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Except it’s not. It’s on purpose to avoid required record keeping and FOIA requests. Illegal as hell but here we are.

[–] [email protected] 51 points 1 week ago

The fuck up they're referring to is the fact that they accidentally exposed themselves using Signal in the first place.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

FOIA has nothing to do with this.

These are discussions of military operations and our relation to foreign nations. It would basically instantly be considered sensitive for quite some time. Think "years" and it would be pretty trivial to get that bumped up to decades.

This was solely about the convenience of not needing to use a VTC room or the fancy computer in their office (that they probably leave the door unlocked to but...) and possibly being able to show it to russia.

Read the story. Waltz set parts of the messages to be deleted after a certain time period. That by itself is illegal as hell and does indeed pertain to record keeping requirements and down the line FOIA requests.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

At least Trump's bathroom doesnt delete the documents.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 week ago

The ringleader, and President of the United States of America, is a convicted Rapist. They don't give a fuck what you think about them, because you've proven that you'll elect them anyways.

Why would they care? Republicans went on tirades for like... 3 years about "Epstein lists!" even though we knew beyond all doubt that Trump was on those lists, but they somehow don't think he's a pedophile. We know Trump raped "Katie Johnson," a 13 year old girl with Epstein. From his base? Crickets.

They just plain don't fucking care. They're evil people masquerading as non-evil people.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh come on, they're going to have higher levels of fuckup than simply this. Get a better imagination.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Also isn't it in violation of the freedom of information act?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

The what now?

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 week ago

Yep and there will be zero consequences for these clowns

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"Fuckup" is an understatement... Inviting the journalist was a fuckup. Intentionally discussing classified information over an external app like Signal is "very fucking illegal".

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

While in Moscow.

Moscow is not a SCIF.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Say incompetence. INCOMPETENCE!

They are scared you'll see their incompetence. They don't care if you see their f**k ups. They don't care if you see their crimes. They don't care if you see their evil.

But they really don't want you to think they're incompetent. Which of course, they are.

Every time they fire somebody and they have to rehire them. INCOMPETENCE

Every time they say they're going to do something and it doesn't get done. INCOMPETENCE.

Oh, believe me, their egos are so fragile, they will pitch a fit.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago

In my heart I feel that there are yet higher levels of fuckup still to be scaled.

Basically, highest level of fsck imaginable SO FAR.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago
[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

Imagine what the folks in Langley are thinking. The fucking Kremlin is proud of their orange fuck up.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Criticism from Democrats is not going to have any effect.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

DEMOCRATS used HARSH REBUKE

It's not very effective...

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

They already decided what they're gonna do about being caught using signal exclusively for communications:

Nothing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh they'll do something: They'll try harder not to get caught.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Eh, mildly harder. It won't matter if no one can do/does anything about it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

The only way to respond is to blitzkrieg the media cycle and get them talking about something else outrageous.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

How to use Signal competently: ALCON - Report to a SCIF

How not to use Signal: I AM THE SCIF NOW

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Couldn't find a SCIF in Moscow.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Don't worry, before the end of the year we'll get into the

U N I M A G I N A B L E Z O N E

of fuck ups.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Pete is right. Completely embarrassing.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Except… and aside from the legal FOIA issues… I’d rather have them use Signal. It could’ve been Line, Telegram, WhatsApp or any other compromised messenger.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The military and government have an entire separate Internet for exactly these kinds of discussions. The fact that they resorted to a private app at all is illegal.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Sure I get that. Again I’m not defending them. I’m just commending them for their choice of messenger. Illegal or not.

And besides, I believe in FOSS not in closed source, so-called secret developments. When it comes to cryptography and security, open source is the best way to go.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

JD Vance's whole phone was already hacked by the Chinese state. He's part of this chat thread.

(Salt Typhoon... They hacked the entire phone system and infiltrated Trump and Vance's phones.)

Whether it was "signal" or not is missing the bigger context, this fucker is a total buffoon of incompetence because this is time #2 within a short span of time. He literally is stupid.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Popping the telecom infra doesn't automatically grant access to Signal messages.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No it doesnt.

But there was a simultaneous hack from a person in the US military that proved they had weak passwords and didn't have 2 factor security on their devices.

Same time that happens, the Chinese were identifying these same devices and those of many others in government. And the official account is "nobody knows how much access they had with their hack.". This is clearly a very serious hack.

If that wasn't bad enough, they learned nothing, apparently.
