Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

The Pentagon has removed web pages about Holocaust remembrance and other historical topics to comply with Trump’s order to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) content from federal government sites.

Taken-down pages include stories of Holocaust survivors and religious tolerance, as well as content about 9/11 and veterans' issues.

The Defense Department used automated tools to identify and delete up to 24,000 pages.

Critics argue this erases significant historical narratives, while the Pentagon defends the move as necessary to end "Woke cultural Marxism."

Rewriting history in real time while we all watch and do nothing.

[–] sevenOfKnives@lemmy.blahaj.zone 51 points 1 year ago (1 children)

that's not exactly true. volunteers have archived most of the old government websites and public data.

i mean, it's not overthrowing the nazis, but frustrating historical revisionism is a start.

"cultural Marxism" oh look, there's the literal Nazi language again.

Apparently, history is too woke. Just assume white guys did everything going back to Moses (if you believe in that).

Some examples of white men throughout history:

  • Gengis Khan
  • Jesus (but not Confucius or Buddha—they are some woke shit)
  • Cleopatra - little known fact: she was actually three white man in a trenchcoat
  • Shaka Zulu - famous for conquering South Africa for white people who ruled benevolently until Nelson Mandela fucked up a good thing
  • Mahatma Gandhi - famous for inventing Trump-style diplomacy in the original Civilization video game. Probably not an actual historical figure.
[–] leaky_shower_thought@feddit.nl 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

i think you mean supply side jesus

jesus is still considered too woke. "give drink to the thirsty"? woke. "love your neighbor"? like canada and mexico? woke

Trump is the second coming of christ to them.

[–] iAmTheTot@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago

White men did all the good stuff, everyone else did all the bad stuff.

You wanna bet they will want March of the Titans to be mandatory reading?

Anticipating the unveiling of the new American flag any moment now...

No, looks about right after the other states join Canada.

Hey everyone, just a friendly reminder that self propelled compost sludge, Pete Hagseth, who was approved by the Republican Congress to serve as head of the DOJ, has multiple white Supremacists tattoos.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 year ago

What a fucking loser.

[–] Embargo@lemm.ee 33 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well... every day is a school day! Today I learned that acknowledging the systematic murder of over 6000000 people is woke.

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

20 million. There were 6 million Jewish victims and 14 million others. If the Nazis had won the war, generalplan Ost mandated another 50 million people to die.

[–] wwb4itcgas@lemm.ee 31 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Could somebody explain to me precisely how either of those things have anything to do with "DEI"? Or what Nazism and Islamism have to do with Marxism for that matter?

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 39 points 1 year ago

Nothing at all. DEI is just being used like a catch-all media buzzword to justify racism. To Trump, DEI means "Anything at all about anyone who isn't a cis white male that I don't like".

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

All life has to do with DEI. The real heart of DEI was inclusion. The whole USA was living one of the most inclusive lifestyles in the world.

It is exactly what Trump said he would do, America First.

I really wasn't expecting, that he has a very narrow and twisted view of who he sees as American.

Musk, the most dangerous immigrant of all time, gets the keys to the country.

At the same time immigrants, that earned their American citizenship by hard work, part of a community, are being treated like pigs and deported.

With DEI officially disappearing, we will see all the good things we build in the last decades also disappear.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The real heart of DEI was inclusion

Kinda ironic way to exclude diversity and equity 😄

The US will either have a civil war or start a world war. I for one hope they have the former, before it gets to the latter.

[–] jmantothe64@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's more likely he'll start a war with Canada and Mexico and will then spark a civil war. I want off this timeline

The US starting a war with Canada and Mexico would very much result in a world war. There is no way the rest of the world would sit idle if that happened.

I think I’m already seeing signs of pre-war polarization.

USA is pushing certain countries away, and they will naturally form new relationships. Maybe in the future we’ll have USA and Russia as one of the rogue states in the axis of oppression. EU will obviously see themselves as one of the good guys who bring democracy and peace to the world.

However, having a civil war in USA looks highly likely as well. Have you considered pulling off a coup d’état yet?

[–] Phoenicianpirate@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

USA is pushing certain countries away, and they will naturally form new relationships.

They are pushing away the overwhelming majority of countries. The only countries they are doing nice with appears to be Russia, Israel (nothing changed there) and El Salvador, whom they are selling slaves to. The El Salvadoran dictator is such a worthless dipshit that his crack down on crime probably will end up causing more problems long term than now (and no, it would not have worked in Colombia or Mexico due to the way how El Salvadoran gangs operate).

With every other country they are pissing everyone off. The Chinese, the New Zealanders, Australians, all of Europe (except for Russia) and their racism probably won't endear them much longer to South Asian nations save for the ultra racist Hindu nationalists.

as well as content about 9/11

As a Muslim, uh... thanks?

[–] Infynis@midwest.social 12 points 1 year ago

Turns out the War on Terror was DEI all along. George Bush is going to be really upset

Woke cultural Marxism

Ah we're on that stage of open fascism, huh?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Cultural Marxism has been a thing for a while. And no, I have no idea what that's supposed to mean.

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

I didn’t know the Holocaust was diverse, equitable and inclusive! Quite the opposite actually…

[–] boreengreen@lemm.ee 10 points 1 year ago

Removing things that the populace can unify behind. Putins orders.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 year ago

At this point the declaration of Independence is going to be removed from government websites for the woke phase "all men are created equal".

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

They are Nazis now.
