I just found out that Kia has a huge class action and extended warranty arrangement for select models. Because my 2016 is included in the affected group, it seems that Kia would reimburse for the new engine, but I’m being told my car isn’t on the list because I didn’t bring it in for a software update before it seized.

I’ve moved to different states in the past 4 years, and don’t know if any Kia notice ever got to me. Since I was unaware of the oil issue, the lawsuit, the recall workaround, and the update, I’m wondering if anyone knows what I could do to be reimbursed. Do I have any options?

A computer update wasn't going to save the trash engine they use. They just don't want to pay for another engine.

Do be aware those engines can back ordered for weeks or even months. Your car will be down for a while.

Thank you for the information. It’s becoming aggravatingly obvious that they worked out a way to avoid paying for all their seized engines.

And thanks for the heads up on engine availability.

Try contacting Kia corporate. Dealers are run independently from manufacturers and will sometimes try to wiggle out of this kind of stuff.

And/Or join the class action/file a claim with the organization in charge of the class action.

Thank you for the ideas. I spoke with the third-party class action representative, but that went nowhere. It seems I can’t join the class action now because… not joking… because my engine seized already. What a world! I’ll try Kia corporate next.

If you haven't tried a second Kia dealership yet, I'd recommend that, too!

Give them your VIN over the phone, ask to schedule the repair under warranty. Might be able to save yourself the headache of going through corporate if the next dealership is less shady than the first.

A 2026 would still be under the 10yr/100k mile warranty.

Extended warranty was to 15 years/150k miles but only if you had the knock sensor installed within the timeframe from the settlement, and only if it failed in a specific way and triggered the sensor and code.

If you’re over 100k miles…you got your moneys worth I guess.

Ahh the hoops I didn’t jump through because I had no idea this issue existed. I’ve been yelling my tag a lot today!

Thank you for the information.
