Some of these recommendations are kinda wack...

BlueSky but no mention of Mastodon?
Deezer is primarily owned by an American investment fund
Tuta is actively enshittifying
ReVanced is still YouTube you're just adding a middleman
HERE WeGo's website doesn't even load atm but where is OpenStreetMap and its thousands of frontends?

I agree with all of those remarks except the last because the here we go app imo is the best google maps replacement

[โ€“] drkt@scribe.disroot.org 1 points 1 year ago

What does it do different?

[โ€“] blinfabian@feddit.nl 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

what is wrong with Tuta tho? ive not experienced anything bad yet

copy pasted

Every once in a while theyโ€™ll send you an email with special CSS styling so you canโ€™t avoid seeing it and you canโ€™t unsubscribe from it. They call it a newsletter. Itโ€™s advertising. Itโ€™s less news and more begging you to buy more of their stuff. Very occasionally theyโ€™ll bump new features onto a higher tier but still show that feature in your UI, with special CSS styling. God forbid if they try to upgrade your account but you deny because youโ€™re happy with the features you have now and the amount you pay; they push harder and harder the longer youโ€™re on a โ€˜legacyโ€™ tier.

It happened to me. Itโ€™ll happen to you.

Don't use HERE WeGo. Jus another for-profit company with closed-source maps. Use OrganicMaps. It's based on Open-Street-Maps.

Is there anyone offering a Waze alternative though? OrganicMaps is offline first and privacy focused which is not something I'm looking for in my navigation app.

I need live traffic and speed controls and so on. Haven't found an alternative yet :(

Only just started using it, but Mullvad has open the doors to their new search engine.

https://leta.mullvad.net/

It pulls results from Google.

Mullvad Leta uses the Google Search API as a proxy, caching each search. These cached results are shared amongst all users, reducing costs and improving privacy. This service is user-supported and doesn't rely on ads or data selling.

Our browser extension simplifies access. Once your account number is set in the settings, there's no need to log in each time. To protect against correlation attacks and manage costs, searches are cached for 30 days, possibly resulting in slightly outdated results.

Bluesky is just twitter 2.0, Mastodon is the better alternative

Deezer is mostly owned by American funds, go on Quobuz instead !

[โ€“] Scipitie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've heard them over and over but I will not join anyone who wants my credit card information before telling me what music is actually available.

They are a no go for me just because of this behavior.

nah i didnt know about the deezer thing. im gonna try to use soundcloud instead. Qobuz costs a bit too much imo

[โ€“] BlastboomStrice@mander.xyz 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

[โ€“] blinfabian@feddit.nl 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I took the original image and edited it using GIMP

[โ€“] BlastboomStrice@mander.xyz 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)
