Summary

A Russian missile strike hit a hotel in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, where U.S., U.K., and Ukrainian humanitarian volunteers were staying. They survived, but four others were killed, and over 30 were injured.

Zelensky condemned the attack and urged continued pressure on Russia. Meanwhile, Trump is pushing for peace talks, pausing U.S. military aid and intelligence sharing after a dispute with Zelensky.

Critics fear Russia now has leverage in negotiations, as Europe struggles to fill the gap left by reduced American support.

There used to be a time when Republicans would lose their shit when US citizens were murdered by Russia.

Now they'll applaud it

[–] shadowDingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 30 points 11 months ago

As long as Annoying Orange says it's okay, they'll keep applauding

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 17 points 11 months ago

russia also switched tactics in the 80s to primarly use propaganda"to destroy from within", they also saw trump in the 80s as a useful tool to further thier agenda.

[–] pet1t@lemm.ee 88 points 11 months ago (4 children)

Trump will say it's Zelensky's fault because he wouldn't agree to his terms

[–] TheObviousSolution@kbin.melroy.org 47 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Trump is probably happy these particular people were killed. They were probably the same sort of journalists he's banning from press conferences.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 11 points 11 months ago

he will also just 'fake it', as he does many other things, so long as he can advance ~~his~~ putin's agenda.

[–] towerful@programming.dev 14 points 11 months ago (9 children)

Or say that Zelensky attacked the hotel in a false flag in order to pressure for support

"Check out was at 10AM. They shouldn't have been there, stupid humanitarians." - Trump, maybe

[–] margaritox@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yes, and I’m very scared how many people mistake his attempts at appeasement as “peace”. What can be done? People are actually buying that Zelensky doesn’t “want peace”.

[–] TheObviousSolution@kbin.melroy.org 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

One is a leader defending their country against an invasion. The other is a leader threatening several other countries with tariffs and the slight threat of invasion. It's clear who wants peace, those people are just in a cult whose capacity for logical leaps will never stop until the whole cult is history.

I mean he didn't say die but in his speech he already said about the economy/tariff situation that, and I quote, "there'll be a little disturbance, but we're ok with that". immediately made me think of this quote.

"Some of you may die, and that's exactly how I want it."

trump is a gutless traitor, a demented rapist, and more incompetent than a bag of shit.

Will no one rid me of this demented rapist traitor?

I don't even know what to say. I asked my dad what the fuck was so bad about his life? He hasn't worked for 30 years. He's collected every government benefit they offer. He even said, when arguing about the stock market, the market has been unprecedentedly rising for 20+ years. What the fuck are you mad about? You have everything except maybe extreme wealth and never leave the fucking house.

I'd have to go through my texts, the argument was lengthy, but I think he basically said he's been lucky none of us were killed by illegal immigrants. Literally, the last thing on a long list of things that has the potential to kill me.

i have an in-law with texan heritage (no longer located there) who is strongly concerned about the change in texan culture over the last, oh, 60 years. I'm still working to inform them that this is due to corporatism and not the mexicans that were there before their family

Putin testing his lapdog Trump if he will bite back to his owner.

[–] paul@lemmy.esquiretheduke.nohost.me 10 points 11 months ago

I'm sure this is somehow Biden's fault. If not his fault, then it's Zelensky's. Or immigrants. Or DEI. Or Wokeness. Or trans athletes. Or Hillary's. Or....

[–] 0xD@infosec.pub 10 points 11 months ago (3 children)

Trump is pushing for peace talks

What the fuck is this reporting?!

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

NewsWeek has always been a fascist rag.

Edit: the only reason it is well known is that propagandists paid to have it placed in every hotel room in the USA. Same as the Gideon Bible.

Russia is trying Israel's moves. Hospitals and journalist families next!

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Hospitals, schools, residential areas, journalists, aid workers... Russia has been doing this since the beginning of the war.

Den Haag had already sent agents to Ukraine to determine if war crimes happened within the first year. The international court has a warrant for the arrest of Putin.

Trump helping to get Americans killed. He just doesn't care. Must have caught that from his wife.

[–] burgersc12@mander.xyz 4 points 11 months ago

I don't think Krasnov has ever cared about anyone but himself...

[–] margaritox@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

I was on a Viber call with my cousin when this missile was flying towards my hometown, where she lives now. We were both crying as she was getting the notifications saying how many seconds are left until it hits.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

One of three possibilities.

  1. Orange Krasnov & Tulsi
  2. Pissed off Ukrainian
  3. The fucking Muscovites got lucky.
[–] x00z@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

You forgot:

  • Meteorite mistaken for missile
