Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

"illegal protest"

So no more first amendment?

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's why Trump cronies are in charge of the DOJ, FBI, military etc. Even peaceful protests against thing Trump does or says will be squashed. Welcome to 1984!

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

pretty much like Hitler after his prison.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

America is such a failed state we couldn't even do that part right.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 76 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A government that makes peaceful protest impossible will make violent revolution inevitable

[–] Glitterbomb@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Keep saying things like that and the CIA might just shoot you in the head.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

No, they'll just find that every little law that they break is suddenly discovered and the IRS is auditing them.

No need to kill people, if you investigate anyone hard enough you'll find some federal law that they're breaking.

A few years in prison will keep you out of the way until it's over

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Nono, you might shoot yourself in the head 3-4 times

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Back of the head, while your cameras malfunction.

[–] kikutwo@lemmy.world 53 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Which protests are the illegal ones? Also, should I let my hematologist oncologist about the no masks law?

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 45 points 1 year ago

The illegal ones are the ones the President doesn't like, obviously.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

The only legal ones will be those happily waving Trump signs and calling for a third term.

[–] ATDA@lemmy.world 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is his real goal just bankrupting America with first amendment suits?

[–] Litebit@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

He bankrupted his casinos to steal investors monies, he will bankrupt US.

[–] Retreaux@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have been upvoting so many news things that I hate lately - a necessary evil.

[–] VieuxQueb@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

It does feel weird to upvote something you hate.

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago (2 children)

What makes a protest illegal?

[–] plz1@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

If it's one the current administration doesn't like. Some examples:

  • Pro-Palestine
  • ANti-fascism
  • Pro-Ukraine
  • Pro-reproductive rights
  • Pro equality
  • LGBTQ

If it upsets rich people

[–] raynethackery@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Everything is happening too fast. I just want to curl up and cry.

After the cry sesh. Then get pissed TF off.

That's exactly the reaction they're looking for. They want the US population to become as disengaged from politics as ordinary Russians are. They want you to learn that same helplessness. So don't cave. Find people you can connect with to resist together.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Whelp, better make it all super duper legal universities, colleges and schools. Put that law on the books that all protests are legal.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

When it comes to the protests against Israel's genocide, the track record of US universities is not good. Universities have been so terrified of losing lucrative Israel-connected sponsorship that they are the first to call for harsh punishments for the students. So I wouldn't count on university administrations to push back hard against this assault on free speech, rather than taking it out on the students.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

It really feels like we're watching our country circle the drain. No one is standing up to a 78 year old toddler.

[–] a4ng3l@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Speedrunning to tyranny.. things are moving fast indeed in these days and age…

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Trump and co have 2 years (until the midterms) to bankrupt the US, let Bezos, Musk and Thiel buy whatever is left that can turn a profit (energy, utilities, etc.) and put loyalists in charge of the election in key states.

See USSR in the 90s.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're going to shut down the department education, they're going to stop all federal funding.

[–] Tarquinn2049@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah, kind of an empty threat. It's just picking who gets to start not having federal funding first.

And the only way to make the protests "illegal" is to seed fake violence into them.

It's just step one on a list of steps to get to schools not having any federal funds slow enough that people don't get enough "up in arms" to actually stop it.

They know liberals have to be pushed pretty hard to actually be violent, so they are pushing 90% as hard as that, but constantly.

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

So states and municipalities with federally-funded colleges now have a financial incentive to legalize all protests, right?

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 year ago

Is "NO MASKS" here an intentional double entendre?

[–] moshankey@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

The whole “no masks” comment immediately made me think of “no take backs “. Seems fitting for the oversized orange man-child.

[–] meowmeowbeanz@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Defunding schools over undefined 'illegal protests' sets a dangerous precedent for academic freedom.

🐱

Did you just get here, or…?

[–] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

as intended

[–] hansolo@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

For anyone keeping track, this is one of the pillars of the Curtis Yarvin Butterfly Revolution. Massive fines that grind endowments to dust is a key Broligarchy strategy.

[–] painfulasterisk1@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

What about the Jan 6 protest, domestic terrorism takeover? Ahh that's different and freedom of speech. Got it

[–] Mvlad88@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

"Agitators" gives me Romania pre 1989 vibes.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He wants violence.

It’s past time for a massive general labor strike.

[–] xye@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

They’re just waiting for it so they can have massive crackdowns, they are counting on it.
