Plastic cartoonie looking mugs for close to a hundred dollars. LMAO

I get them, niche shit is going to be expensive when you make them this way (high quality molds)

They don't even really look that good. A 3d printer could probably have similar output in an afternoon for less than 10 bucks of filament

[–] poke@sh.itjust.works 10 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I would not recommend drinking out of anything 3d printed.

[–] Orygin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

True, and more generally I would not recommend drinking out of plastic containers anyway

[–] vxx@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

They don't look made for using.

[–] MellowYellow13@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Yeah for real lol

For almost a hundred bucks, I expect this to be high quality and made ceramic or double walled vacuum sealed stainless steel. This looks worse than what some higher end 3d printers can do in a few hours.

I don't know if Id recommend drinking out of that cheap plastic one either.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

You would probably put a metal insert into it.

[–] CheeseNoodle@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

On that note PLA is food safe anyway, the reason you don't drink out if it is the layer lines create an environment for bacteria so with finishing and cleaning you wouldn't even need the insert, in theory anyway though I'd still use one.

Huh, good to know. Thanks!

They look so cheap.

There's a lot of armchair experts on manufacturing here.
No it can't be 3D printed, that will never beat injection molding in this use case.
You must be living on the moon if you think this can be made from ceramic/steel for $50.
Sorry but yall haven't got a clue

[–] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 11 points 10 months ago

For plastic? Ridiculous.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

Oh, damn. I thought it was $85 for all four. I would have maybe laid down that, I am a Lord of th Deep after all. But I didnt know they were plastic...

[–] Viri4thus@feddit.org 3 points 10 months ago

They're not.
