Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
And the sun on a dog’s ass.
- ~~somehow~~ probably implements in the stupidest way possible
- conspiracy theorists hoard pennies
- ?
What will the chaos monkey do next.
If businesses aren't legally allowed to round up or down, then they might be stuck having to hoard pennies if they become hard to find.
Maybe they could stop pricing things at X.99 and just be honest with us.
And maybe show the price after taxes (i think it was not common in US to do so, could be wrong come from europe)
You’re correct, it’s not shown often.
Have we ever come close to running out of pennies? Given that almost every household in the US has an enormous jar full of them, I'd have to imagine that there isn't even really a need to produce more pennies in the first place.
HE'S TAKING THE US FURTHER FROM THE GOLD STANDARD! /c
Did he literally just cancel it and not put into place any sort of policy or rules in regards to the logistics of doing so or did he actually have a plan to phase it out?
In Canada we have rules in place for things like purchasing in cash and rounding up to the nearest $0.05 or rounding down to the nearest $0.05 depending on what the cost is after taxes but if it's being paid for by card no rounding is necessary. Are any of those rules in place or even thought about it more deeply than penny needs to go? The article doesn't mention anything except cancelling it because of money.
Regulating rounding seems like something that needs to be done with a proper law, not an executive act.
So I'm 99% sure he just stopped production and he and his sycophantic merry band didn't think about the consequences.
It's trump. There's obviously no plan.
Yep. Just like his tariffs. Tariffs that don't offer alternatives to American businesses are self-inflicted wounds.
Trump rarely have a plan beyond the initial order. That's for other people to figure out
On one hand, long overdue. On the other hand, part of me would rather see Donny T's fugly mug stamped on the front and "One Cent Trump Token" on the back.
Since it's a waste of money, he'd still be screwing us even after he's gone; Ahh, the legacy continues.
Only dead Presidents are on money though.
You say that like it's a counterargument.
Let no one say that Trump NEVER did anything good.
But we could easily write all of the good things on a postage stamp with room to spare.
Donald J. Trump the petty penny president
Is there a law saying that companies can round up or down to the nearest nickel? Or do they just assume every business will still have access to pennies?
It says nothing about removing pennies from circulation. They're just going to stop making new ones.
I'm down for this 'change' :D
