If you watch the show, you know that the second guy thinks about the first guy all the time. He deliberately sabotaged the first guy, which lead to the confrontation.

That's like my college rivalry setup:
- A and B are bitter rivals, with over a hundred years of history
- C sets A as a rival, A just pats C on the head and says, "sure little buddy"
