Yeah. Lukashenko knows the war is really unpopular with his people and that supporting Russia with troops would be a death sentence for him.

That Lukashenko didn't even condem the Ukrainian counterinvasion shows how much of a minefield this war is for him.

Why would Belarusians side with Russia... it aint like Russians were "nicer" to them than ukrainains, georgians, moldovans, kazakhs, balts, chenchens, jfc i am getting tired listing them. you get the vibe...

Because Russian troops are stationed within a day’s travel of Minsk and the country depends on Russia for ocean access?

Same reason Kazakhs have traditionally supported Russia, until they got that new shipping route built that bypasses Russia entirely.

Moreso, Russia has actively supported the current Belarusian government including helping to put down protests in Belarus.

Hey, please cite a reputable source for this or remove it.

Neither is credible: they also claim that the weapons were made in Russia, not that they were given by Russia. Remember the whole "soviet union" thing, where a lot of Eastern European countries still have leftover arms and ammunition from?

He should now stay far away from windows

He may actually be huge but anyone would look big when you're sitting next to a very small man.

Wow I never realized he had such a tiny head.

I reckon his border to Russia isn't defended very well.

[–] vpol@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

His country is a defence of Russian border. At least a buffer zone.

Oooo, someone wants to be in the history books as "the guy who wanted to end the conflict."

No deal, Lukashenko. You'll always be a Boris Yeltsin knockoff, and a bootlicker, and a spineless shill, so sayeth history.

I don't think so. I think he's worried Ukraine could do an incursion in Belarus and stir Belarussians to topple him.

[–] ulkesh@beehaw.org 1 points 2 years ago

And he should be worried. He backed Russia. He has slept with the invader, now he can rot with him.
