Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

It's so great to have a good administration coming in that will have a good handle on the upcoming 2025 plague! /s

In before Trump pulls a Mao Zedong and declares war on birds.

And to think he was trying so hard to save them from the wind turbines, and this is how they repay him...

[–] Orbituary@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Maybe Newsom can see if he can blame this on PG&E then bail them out afterward.

They should publish a copy of the "playbook" this time on a government website so they can't dick around saying it doesn't exist again

He can start by banning raw milk.

[–] Sanguine@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

Lol who is downvoting this is one of the steps that must be taken.

[–] john89@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Why do I get the suspicious feeling that there's a significant overlap between people who want raw milk and are against vaccines.

The Venn diagram:

There is - and this is where the "wings" of each party tend to overlap as well. The MAGA and the hippies start to agree on anti-science BS.

That Venn diagram is a circle

Great and all. But can we get something below a state of emergency. Everything seems to trigger one of those these days. It kinda loses it's meaning when overused.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

State of emergency just sounds scary but it's more about unlocking additional funds for issues. My state was under a "state of emergency" for drought. All it ment was some industries and communities could receive extra subsidies for water costs.

[–] DreamlandLividity@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Except it often also unlocks executive powers, not just funds. So yes, there should be a level that allows unlocking funds without everyone having to check if democracy is being suspended.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Ya but not for anything outside that specific reason for the emergency. For this example some of those added powers is so the government can cut some red tape to reduce the problem. The chicken industry in CA alone is worth billions of dollars, directly employees tens of thousands of people, and indirectly employees hundreds of thousands of people. Adding in the fact that it's also a public health emergency the governor using state police to restrict access to chicken farms isn't some authoritarian move to suppress the people. It's to keep nut jobs (PETA, Conspiracy theorist, etc) from getting sick.

What inappropriate powers are available in CA

[–] DreamlandLividity@lemmy.world -4 points 1 year ago

Idk about CA specifically. But even if none were available, it is still a term that is used for unlocking such powers on the federal level and in some states. So if CA does not have such powers, then just rename it I guess.

State of mild annoyance?

[–] Poach@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We need a defcon system for emergencies.

[–] Retrograde@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

An Emergicon system, if you will

I don't think the impacts of this are being fully realized yet...like the stores here (Sacramento) are low on eggs, the zoos have taken the birds off exhibit, and I live next to a large wildlife preserve that's a huge bird migration path and they just like haven't been there this year. Those giant starling clouds were an annual thing for a week or so and they just didn't happen this year. It really feels like there's a LOT less small birds; the big herons and stuff are still visible, but like walking the preserve is noticeably quieter.

[–] kofe@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Just made me realize I haven't seen any geese this year. Normally they absolutely litter the pond near my place

Is it a multi species pandemic yet? I missed 2020-2021 so bad. I loved not being around people.
