Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Eat a fucking brick Betsy.

[–] Mobiuthuselah@lemm.ee 114 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Betsy DeVos is the sister of Erik Prince who founded Blackwater, the controversial mercenary group, for those that didn't know. She vehemently suppressed anything that would benefit public education and funneled public funds to private education while she was Secretary Of Education.

[–] SeaJ@lemm.ee 68 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And she got rich by her husband scamming people via Amway.

[–] Sammy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 2 years ago

Ah, so she’s the unrepentant evil, gotcha

[–] aodhsishaj@lemmy.world 53 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Seems weird and cultish to me

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 53 points 2 years ago

The devos family is a cancer

[–] dugmeup@lemmy.world 50 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah of course she does

Betsy DeVos reported at least $225 million — and potentially well over $414 million — in outside income while working as Donald Trump’s education secretary, according to an analysis of DeVos’s financial disclosures by CREW. It is impossible to know the exact amount because DeVos’s income is reported in broad ranges, but we do know for a fact that she made nine figures during her four years in office.

Trump's education Secretary making 9 Figures while Working for Trump is PROOF that DEMOCRATS are the Swamp!

Nobody wants that crazy beach.

[–] iltoroargento@lemmy.sdf.org 14 points 2 years ago

Either "crazy beach" lol

She was horrendous, but I don't think anybody wants anything to do with orange weirdo, either.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 40 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I graduated from an ed program just as Trump appointed this loser. Tons of people signed a letter condemning her and asking our school to do the same, but we got the canned admin response of "not getting involved in politics".

[–] ABCDE@lemmy.world 35 points 2 years ago

Yet it gets involved in education. Horrific.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 34 points 2 years ago

As if there weren't already enough reasons to vote against Trump...

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 33 points 2 years ago

One of those who quit-to-save-face when the orange turd incited an attempted coup? Color me shocked

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 30 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Oh course she would.

It was extremely lucrative for her the first time, she's a ghoul driven only by greed, and it'd be even MORE lucrative if they get back in with a plan to dismantle all the systems in place to protect the country from leeches like her.

[–] 58008@lemmy.world 29 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I realise now that I had been quite happy this past few years, having forgotten that this gormless moonboot existed.

Day ruined.

gormless moonboot

Even though your day is ruined, you made my day with this perfectly crafted insult. Thanks.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee 24 points 2 years ago

More reason to vote for Harris

[–] 432@lemmy.world 22 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

The prediction markets heavily favor Kamala at the moment. It's a ridiculously large edge, too. To be fair, Hillary Clinton was heavily favored by the prediction markets during the 2016 race, it was only during the midst of election night it flipped.

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Wow. Down to the wire. Not very helpful at predicting anything in that case.

[–] usernamesAreTricky@lemmy.ml 22 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Republicans want the entire department of education gone. It's in project 2025, and they keep repeating it as she did right now

She then proceeded to say she was open to the idea “only if it was with the goal of phasing out the Department of Education as we tried to do through budgetary process in the first administration

They want to gut public education at the expense of anyone living in the US

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Can't have a smart and informed electorate if your plan is to create a fundamentalist religious kingdom where the king is chosen by god and is infallible.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

Amway not paying off like it used to, huh?

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

weird that the only people that really love trump right now are billionaires

[–] Triz@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Billionaires and very stupid people.

[–] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 15 points 2 years ago

I forgot all about this Hagraven.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 2 years ago

Hey, it's that shitty lady who knew nothing about education who was in charge of education. I actually hate her more than the rest because harming education actually harms kids. Fuck you, lady.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 13 points 2 years ago

One more idiotic cretin for the pile.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 10 points 2 years ago

Serve *herself

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

Yeah not too keen on having Professor Umbridge back.

[–] LEDZeppelin@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

There’s way more than just one. We have 2 on my kids school board.

[–] HurlingDurling@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Grifters gonna grift

[–] GeorgeLightning@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Betsy keeps her eye on the bag, I'll give her that.

[–] VinnyDaCat@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Not sure what anyone expected. This is just how conservatives are. These people have no morals or beliefs other than doing whatever is best for them at the current moment in time and they won't even bother to disguise or hide it.

[–] credo@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

You know.. the memory of a goldfish would explain a lot about republicans.
