Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The judge in both cases, Lewis Kaplan, has said that the jury’s conclusion was that Carroll had failed to prove that Trump raped her “within the narrow, technical meaning of a particular section of the New York Penal Law.”

Kaplan noted that the definition of rape was “far narrower” than how rape is defined in common modern parlance, in some dictionaries, in some federal and state criminal statutes and elsewhere.

The judge said the verdict did not mean that Carroll “failed to prove that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape.’ Indeed ... the jury found that Mr. Trump in fact did exactly that.”

There was no defamation by Stephanopoulos. The problem is the legal definition of "rape" in the state of New York.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 23 points 1 year ago

Did Stephanopoulos specifically state he committed the crime of rape as defined in the state of New York, or did he just say he raped her with no added context? Seems like you should be able to use the colloquial definition should be fine to use in a news bulletin.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 12 points 1 year ago

Fortunately, the legal definition of “rape” has been recently updated in New York, probably as a direct result of the Carroll case.

Watching an empire crumble in real time is scary.

[–] Davin@lemmy.world 25 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's scary because it's falling on a lot of us. And it won't just be the US that it falls on either.

[–] gnomesaiyan@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago

This man is going to be the death of us all.

At this point it might be that US splitting might be a net positive for humanity

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A split is the best thing that could happen to this country right now. For anyone stuck in a red state unable to leave, I'm sorry

[–] Nalivai@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago

The problem is, all or almost all the red states have negative budget, so when they find themselves in need of money and nobody to leech from, they will start slavery, war, or probably both.

Trump must be so proud that his library will be partially paid for by suing people. Very on brand.

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago

Carrol couldn't tell if he raped her with his stubby finger or his tiny penis.

[–] xenomor@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago

trump gettin’ paid to rape that woman. Dumbest timeline, dumbest country, dumbest people on earth

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The Trump Presidential Library will comprise nothing other than piss porn.

[–] Free_Opinions@feddit.uk 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Enjoying piss porn comes at no harm to anyone else. It's a quite common kink.

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I mean, exclusively.

No, Trump's name was clearly printed in the article.

No, I think I was good on that part, thank you for clarifying though haha

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This isn't because they think they'll loose, they're trying to appease the ogre before it demands a virgin worth way more than $15mil.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah yes, appeasement, there's a proven strategy for dealing with fascists /s

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Appeasement is a famously poor strategy when dealing with bullies, that's 100%.

However, if you're referring to Nevil Chamberlain and the "peace in our time" deal with Hitler regarding Czechoslovakia, that's one of the most misunderstood "teachable moments" in history.

The central concept of "appeasing" Hitler relies on the false premise that England (or France, or Together) were in a position to do anything about German tanks rolling East. Chamberlain had received intelligence shortly before this meeting that they were absolutely not. England and France were helpless to protect Poland after all. And for months existed in an abortive "phony war" after the official deceleration.

Also you have to consider British public opinion about another war on the continent with Germany when most could still remember 1914-1918. So not only was Chamberlain helpless to prevent Hitler's invasion, his political mandate was to avoid war.

Chamberlain's reputation for being weak and bowing to Hitler's demands is undeserved. But worse, is often used as a rational for aggression or as a cudgel to dismiss diplomacy.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago

as a cudgel to dismiss diplomacy.

Nazis do not respond to diplomacy

[–] Vikthor@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

It's quite telling how these Chamberlain's apologists always ignore the Czechoslovak materiel and arms industry. Yes, Britain and France were unable to help Poland also because they let Germany get all the Czechoslovak equipment and factories absolutely unscathed.

Did anybody tell him libraries are where they keep books?
