/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

too late. the true fuckery hasn't even begun in earnest yet.

For my time, at least, there's been:

  • Multiple proxy wars
  • Tons of social/racial/sexual/child violence without sufficient changes in attitude/policy
  • Massive terrorist attacks
  • Pandemic that could have been reasonably reduced in intensity
  • The disappearance of Taco Bell's chili cheese burrito (in my neck of the woods, anyway)

all truly awful and enough to ruminate on for a lifetime, but much like omar, trump is comin and he knows where all the buttons on the dash are this time. gird your nethers. i do not believe we've seen anything yet.

Points 1, 2, and 3 are things everyone has seen for millinia. Those are human nature at this point.

Taco Bell sadly died twenty years ago.
We did get to see Stardew Valley though. There are some good things.

I was promised a brighter distopia!

… or Pizza Hut outside the US.

Great. Thank you for reminding me of that travesty of a movie. I take back any postive and/or hopeful comments I made about humanity.

This movie was the high points of all human aspirations, of all times and for all times.

[–] jrs100000@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Were all just a meta point in someone elses proxy war.

The disappearance of Taco Bell's chili cheese burrito (in my neck of the woods, anyway

If it didn't disappear, it'd be $6 anyway. Taco Bell isn't what it used to be.

Millennials should get renamed as the interesting generation.

More Gen-X erasure. Par for the course.

Every generation must know its own suffering. I spit on the people who did this, and I curse the price I have to pay. But I'm making my peace with it, now you make yours.

Hey, you people killed hair metal and made rock rock again, I thank you for that.

I thought we were the Oregon Trail generation.

I just watched the most recent Lower Decks, which involved many different realities, and I had the sobering thought that our Earth will be one that fell prey to greed and destroyed itself before we ever made it out into space. Fuck.

As Janeway famously told to both Tuvix and Harry Kim,

Boring times breeds bullshit.
After the bullshit kicks up to eleven is when the hero generation rises up.
Then the hero generation makes sure life is the best it can be for thier children.
Those children get bored.

(And somewhere during it all, there's a generation that no one remembered to let into the house before dark.)

All times are interesting, just in different ways.
