I found out the Shrike likes to impale it's victims on ~~spikes~~ thorns and sticks for later consumption.
I was trying to find information on the romulan Shrike.
Both are pretty metal.
I learned the Shrike is a real bird when reading about the Hyperion Cantos Shrike.
They share some disturbingly similar features.
A case from few years ago in Finland where cows had to be put down because great tits demolished their udders by pecking for fat. Link.
