MODERATORS

“One of the things that we heard last night, resoundingly across the country, is that we are in ... a new movement in this country,” Flanagan said. “Many of us were elected who refused corporate PAC money, who are beholden only to the people who elected us and are ready to fight for bold change. And so I think it’s time for new leadership.”

Peggy Flanagan is far from alone in wanting this.

The Senate majority leader should have a fucking pulse.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

I find it important because she's relatively moderate and from a safely blue state this election. I'm glad to see it's not just Bernie, El-Sayed, etc. calling for it

Also she's my senator, so I'm proud of that

[–] CanIFishHere@lemmy.ca 2 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

How is the Senate Democratic leader selected? I thought it was an elected position.

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

it's an election by the members, so if Democrats have a majority, they get their candidate

[–] FE80@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

The Senators from the majority party vote on it.

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 21 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Shumer can retire and spend time with the imaginary family he's been talking to for decades.

And yes, that's true. Look it up.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 7 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

And you know the Baileys went MAGA in 2016. Fuck those marketing persona assholes.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

I can't get over the fact Schumer's fake family that he regularly pretends to talk to for years didn't even vote democrat

If you can't convince your imaginary average family to vote for your party, how in the hell does he expect to be able to whip together senate votes?

[–] getgary@lemmy.world 20 points 19 hours ago

Voters across the board are sick of the status quo. Fuck Jeffries and Schumer's establishment grip on our Democratic Caucus! It’s time for new leadership that delivers BOTH real justice and real economic relief for ALL citizens! Leaders like Peggy Flanagan prove they actually understand why this moment demands real change.

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 29 points 22 hours ago (8 children)

As one of her constituents, I'm happy she understands why she won. We don't want the same Democratic party we've been getting. They actually have to start improving things.

If you have a Dem House rep, contact them and say no to Jefferies

If you have a Dem senator, contact them and say no to Schumer

We can't waste time on neoliberals

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 67 points 1 day ago (17 children)

What if my Senator is Schumer? How do I politely tell him to retire already?

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 5 points 5 hours ago

Something brief that starts with "Off you" and ends with "fuck."

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 74 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sir, as one of your constituents I do not feel as though you have acted in accordance with the needs or the will of the people who elected you into office, but rather submitted to the demands of private interests and corporate donors. Your actions, or often lack of action, have caused harm at worst and at best kept positive change from happening. I respectfully ask that you step down and allow the next generation of leadership to enact the will of regular Americans.

Sincerely, dhork.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Extra points for actually signing it that way lmao

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 day ago

He's openly suggested that he's more loyal to Israel than to the united States. Tell him that's borderline treason and he's despicable for supporting genocide. Tell him you want a new rep and a new leader.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Tell him you want a more progressive leader in the senate. He should know his constituents don't want him in charge either

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 20 points 1 day ago

Tell him your an average white middle class republican couple and you definitely think he needs to step down for the good of the country.

I hereby declare that I too want a new Senate Democratic leader to replace Chuck Schumer.

We all do Peggy. We all do. While your at it, could you back seat Jeffries too? His blue sweater has WAY too much red bleed through. His viewpoints are out of date and not in line of what needs to happen as soon as our new civil servants hit the ground running.

[–] Taldan@lemmy.world 1 points 56 minutes ago

Also he held secretive meetings with Jared Kushner. Jeffries is corrupt

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Contact your representative and tell them you want them to not endorse Schumer's leadership nor Jeffries' ambitions to run for Speaker of the House. The more messages they get from their constituents the more likely the establishment's goal of doing nothing will be thwarted. It doesn't take very long!

[–] lka1988@sh.itjust.works 4 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

I know my rep isn't gonna vote for either of them, because he's a raging MAGAt.

Mike Kennedy (UT) - wait, sorry - DOCTOR Mike Kennedy 🙄

I may have intentionally referred to him as "Mr. Kennedy" in my email to him today. I know it pisses off some doctors when that happens.

Quick reminder that Minnesota is a state with a left party independent from the DNC.

They caucus with, and accept money from the DNC, but the DFL has always been slightly more to more progressive than the DNC.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

And the person who ran Minnesota's DFL for a decade has been the DNC chair for like 21 months...

A big reason why this wave was not only huge, but full of progressives...

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Minnesota is a unique state looking at it. Something about it.

Significant rural population that almost exclusively votes conservative (for reasons that don't entirely make sense). From what I hear, there are a LOT of anarcho-communist groups throughout the state. They take education and hunger seriously. There's a LOT of really rich people though.

I strongly believe thats why Walz and the State were targeted so hard by Trump. A state that naturally opposes authoritarianism is an anathema to the regime.

Wow, never had heard of the DFL, but now I read the wiki, and that is a pretty cool history...at least before they got a bit more conservative in the post-war period, but still cool!

It's clear that the Democratic Voters are loudly demanding a new direction in America, and that starts with new leadership who understand their mission, and Israel is not part of it. We didn't go through all this trouble to get rid of MAGA control, to just fall under Israeli control instead. We thought we'd have to fight one enemy, only to find out there's another enemy right behind them.

Bernie Sanders is basically an Honorary Democrat by now.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Schmuck should resign, AOC should take his place, and then SHE becomes Senate Majority Leader.

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 5 points 22 hours ago

I'm pretty sure this was a joke, but they are in different Houses of Congress.

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

she's not alone

[–] dumples@piefed.social 26 points 1 day ago

Way to to go Peggy!!! Change the senate leadership

[–] uberdroog@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Without this it mutes the entire election. They want moderation but that's not what the voters want.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 1 day ago

That's their job, to keep things from straying too far from the Conservative line.

[–] turdburglar@piefed.social 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

so do the baileys

[–] Flatworm7591@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 day ago

So long as Zionists neolibs are still in charge, nothing has fundamentally changed. Ditch him asap or the midterms count for nothing.

[–] Lyricism6055@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

The people resoundingly voted for more Nancy pelosi and to raise the average age of Congress by another 5 years /s
