A Maryland hairdresser who voted for Donald Trump in 2024 after believing his promises to lower living costs said she has since lost her home and car, struggled to pay her credit cards, and watched customers disappear from her business. Now, she bitterly regrets helping return him to the White House, declaring that only the devil could govern with such cruelty.

Celia Salmerón, 58, accused the Trump administration of bringing hardship rather than the financial relief he promised voters. She immigrated from El Salvador as a child, and now runs a hair salon in a working-class Maryland neighbourhood with a large Hispanic population.

'He promised to give us money. But he didn't give us anything. What he gave us this time were problems,' Salmerón recently told a media outlet, adding that she had been unable to keep up with her debts and had lost almost everything she worked to build.

'Ever since Trump came in, I have been bankrupt. I have lost everything: my house, my car. I can't pay my credit cards,' she said.

I mean she had 3 chances in 10 years to not vote for him

Leopard, meet face.

[–] chewypoops@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How did Trump make her clients go away? Did she have a MAGA flag in her business or something?

Very funny thing to do in Maryland.

[–] nomecks@lemmy.wtf 3 points 1 day ago

She's from El Salvador. ICE has probably scared all her customers away.

Have the day you voted for dumbass. Those people never had a problem with Trump doing evil things. They only have a problem if it affects them.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 59 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And they see a problem with Trump, not republicans in general. They'll be right back to voting republican again next election (and probably the current election too)

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And those forced trans surgeries on kids

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 36 points 2 days ago (1 children)

'If I had known this man was going to behave this way, I would not have voted for him. And I regret voting for him,' she added.

in other words, "if I had been paying the slightest bit of attention to the past decade, I would not have voted for him"

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Decade? She's 58, he's been a fucking joke for her entire life.

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.ca 80 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I wish humans were smarter :(

[–] Freeposity@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I wish they had more empathy more than anything else.

Granted. One person is now insanely smart, enough so that the average human intelligence is significantly raised, but in practice nobody ever listens to the smart person because they're too dumb.

Wait, I've seen this movie.

They are, but they need adequate education rather than evil indoctrination. They need social media without misinformation algorithms that prey on their tribal instincts. They need proper guidance and love as children to develop healthy coping skills. They need to be kept away from dark triad people.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 70 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I don't even understand how anyone could have watched him and think, yeah, he'll be totally great for America.

Especially if you are non-white and/or immigrated here.

What do they think signs like "Mass Deportation Now" even mean?

[–] PapaStevesy@lemmy.world 46 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I especially don't understand how a hairdresser could watch him and think, yeah, that's the hair of a sane person with good priorities.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Oh my word, that's a very good point.

🤣

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 20 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There's a statistic I saw the other day that something like 90% of Trump voters have never actually listened to him speak. Like, not properly. They see him in clips and soundbites. Part of a sentence, that sort of thing. When you cherry pick, you can find the stuff that sounds good, and they just fill in the rest. It's only when you hear him for a solid minute that you really get that awful sense that this is not a remotely cogent or intelligent human being.

They're not voting for Donald Trump, they're voting for the guy from The Apprentice. They're voting for a character, and that character sounds like someone who knows how to solve money problems and make deals. They figure, that's all politics really is, right?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Of all the memeplexes out there, the one about how America and rugged individualism is best exemplified as "small business owners" and/or businessmen, and that this country ought to be run by these types, i.e, as a business, meaning a "CEO President".

Just the most incorrect and toxic set of ideas, all intertwined.

He bragged about assaulting women and they said that's for me!! They fall for the propaganda blaming minorities and join the bad team to feel belonging, it's really sad, they could join the good team to belong as well but choose bad.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Celia sounds like a dumbass

[–] daddycool@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Very much. If it had been Trumps first term, I might have felt sorry for her. But voting him in a second time. Nah, you're an idiot.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)
  1. The Pedo-in-Chief TOLD you morons that he doesn't care about you and only cares about your vote, has told you to your faces that he thinks you're stupid, yet you voted for his conman ass.

And

  1. You didn't care until his BS started affecting you, so go fuck yourself. You get zero pity. The rest of us wish you the worst.
[–] nosuchanon@lemmy.world 34 points 2 days ago

You should have listened to all the people that fucking told you so

[–] CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 42 points 2 days ago (3 children)

[–] how_we_burned@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It just goes to show that the colour of your skin or even your culture doesn't prevent you from being a racist fucking moron.

I can't tell you how many people think they cannot be racist simply because they're not white before they tell me in the next breath how x race are the worst.

My theory is racism, prejudice is built into our brains neurological functions, especially lower level ones, and thus requires constant vigilance to prevent.

A million years ago humans who looked at a strippy bush and thought there was a tiger hiding in it and thus avoided it became prejudicial to strippy bushes irrespective of the evidence that the vast majority never had a tiger in them. But because of their cautiousness they survived and spread this on.

The same applied to strangers and other tribes. They looked at these other people, clocked their features and were instantly prejudicial. They avoided / murdered them based on this ever constant belief that it better to kill and be safe not to mention the powerful incentive that conditioned them further with being able to take their shit.

This created homogeneous populations based on tribal / national scale that have entrenched this prejudice, this belief that ethnicity and culture are the same, over the past 40,000 generations of human "evolution" (a great example of how evolution doesn't always lead to improvements).

The last two hundred years of war, mass exoduses and diasporas has dissolved the tenuous lines of what we defined as ethnicities. What is asian, black, and caucasians when every year millions of humans mix their genes with people across the world.

Whats an innuit mixed with a person from a slavic and African background?

Yes we have linguistic/cultural backgrounds. Those are important but membership is no longer govern by your genes. Adopted kids from asia into the US midwest alone shows how silly this. There are kids born from people of Filipino heritage in Israel demanding to be able join the IDF (be the first kid on their block to get a confirmed kill).

So whenever i see these articles of people from various cultures i can understand on one level how they can throw in with the fascists. They don't see themselves as Hispanics first but as MAGA because ultimately what the MAGA movement enables is this freedom to no longer hold back this inbuilt racist prejudice that lives deep inside our perception system.

To be able to hate and not hold yourself back, always having to check and correct yourself is liberating.

My father was a socialist, a bleeding heart liberal but get him behind the wheel of a car and the absolute hate for any asian female driver who came his way flowed like the dark side, like palpatine was sitting next to him encouraging the hate). But out of his car, in his work, it was the complete opposite.

Its like when he was driving that internal checksum was no longer operating as his higher level systems were busy on trucking right. Indeed when one highlighted his casual racism and hatred.

Its no surprise that most of these maga voters fall into to distinct buckets. Older people who are falling into the long decline of a neuro degenerative disease like senality, where they end up relying on low level functions (like an autopilot) whilst being at the mercy of peer group dynamics (which is how fascist mainstream media infects their brain) , especially hate filled ones, are so much more powerful) and younger people who have been kept in a information bubble, conditioned all their life to hate.

voted for Donald Trump in 2024 after believing his promises to lower living costs

No she didn't.

immigrated from El Salvador as a child,

Implying she had any say in the matter as a child. Her parent(s) made the decision and dragged her along regardless of her feelings on the matter.

Celia Salmerón, 58, accused the Trump administration of bringing hardship

She willingly voted for a guy who said he'll be deporting her Mexican ass back to Mexico. As well as how Mexicao isn't sending their best. She thought that the Orange Pedo knows El Salvador isn't Mexico and she's special since she's not Mexican and Trump isn't talking about her and her totally-not-Mexican family.

only the devil could govern with such cruelty.

He told everyone in the world about his intent to unleash cruelty and she thought it won't affect her because she's not Mexican or "black" or Haitian. She's special and "an American". Forgetting where her El Salvadorian ass came from.

Many of Salmerón's clients are undocumented immigrants, including some with pending asylum claims, making her neighbourhood particularly vulnerable to the administration's aggressive immigration enforcement.

He told everyone he'll be cruel and you chose to vote for him and his cruelty because you're too stupid and self centred to realize you'll be affected and targeted as well.

Tough titties, Celia Salmerón from Not-Mexico.

Trump's economic promises and immigration policies are alienating voters who helped deliver his return to the White House.

Lol. At least 30% are still singing "aye vil woat for Donol Tromp" and joining ICE to dish out cruelty.

Bon Voyage, Latinos for Trump.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 12 points 2 days ago

Oh NOW you regret it when your ass is feeling the heat well welcome to the find out phase of your journey, it'll be awhile and you'll lose even more along the way, enjoy the ride dumbass!

[–] starelfsc2@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago

"I did 0 research before voting on something that impacts everyone else, and then it turned out to be bad, for ME!"

We need voting to require proof that you spent more than 5 seconds researching the candidates and their policies, the average voter is just unreal. How is it possible the only reason trump is unpopular is just because prices are high, not his heinous policy or his 959204 crimes?

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The classic FAFO and zero sympathy. I will continue to type it as long as the MAGA fucknuts exist. I'm certain she supports the El Salvadoran fucknut Bukele too.

[–] Vince@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago (4 children)

I've always wondered how people got fooled by such obvious lies. Now I'm getting the picture of someone who probably based their decision on nothing but a couple of ads. The mediocre honest promises have no chance against grandiose lies if they believe both.

I really hope the hairdresser does the right thing and voting for the Democrats this Election Day.

"Only the devil behaves that way"

Of course its a religious nutcase 🙀 so surprising 🙄

Maybe start by not seing the magic wish-granting fairy in everything...

A functioning adult with voting power shouldn't need an imaginary friend to tell them right or wrong ffs

[–] DonJefe@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Those leopards have gotten soooo fat in these 2 years

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

To believe a politician's promises makes you dumb. If that politician is trump, you're about 10000% dumber.

Yeah, well, you should have listened when people told you not to vote for him!!

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

I am sure she will vote for pedopres again.
