Trump and conservatives believe anyone they don't like for any reason doesn't have any rights.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 5 points 6 days ago

According to Trump, nobody has rights but Trump, who has the Divine Right of Kings.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 67 points 1 week ago (3 children)

This is not a new idea in Conservative circles. I remember having debates wih people 30 years ago, who voted for goobers like Bob Dole, George Pataki and Al D'Amato, who insisted that the rights in the Bill of Rights only applied to citizens, and foreigners in our country had no rights whatsoever.

And since Trump has decided that Omar's citizenship application is fraudulent, in his mind she never was a citizen, so is subject to the same treatment.

You see? It makes total sense, if you're a xenophobic moron!

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social 42 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Or Bush senior saying that he doesn't know if atheists should be considered citizens.

[–] jasoman@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Religion are the worse and need to be regulated to prevent harm.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 9 points 1 week ago

Its already regulated. Problem is just that no one cares to enforce it.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 5 points 1 week ago

You spelled eliminated wrong

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago

Christianity needs to be treated like a mental health pandemic

[–] Kirp123@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

"The right of the people to be... "

"No person shall be held to answer..."

"In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall..."

And so on.

I don't see a single mention of citizen in there, only the people, person, the accused which are words that can refer to anyone citizen or not.

[–] fonix232@fedia.io 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's really simple, those who aren't US citizens, aren't people - according to MAGA.

[–] tquid@piefed.ca 3 points 6 days ago

~~citizens~~ white, straight, Christian men

FTFY

[–] Tujio@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Well, if you don't consider immigrants to be people...

[–] Nollij@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 week ago

The idea of non-citizens having different rights (not none, but a very different set) is pretty well-established. But the courts have also long upheld that it's all or nothing. Once you become a citizen, you have all of those rights. If you renounce, you lose them all. There is very little wiggle room on the subject.

Trump decided she wasn't a citizen long before there was any question of fraud. That happened the moment she refused to kneel to him. The rest is just about how he can reach his goal of destroying anyone that would challenge him.

[–] Throbbing_banjo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 34 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Just fucking die already you fat, racist dotard.

[–] eurodyne@piefed.world 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sadly, these ideas neither started with him, nor will they die with him.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Unfortunately. The Heritage Foundation goes back to at least the early 1800s, but thats where things get murky. A direct line of people can connect Trump to Anthony Comstock.

Trump -> Roy Cohn -> Joseph McCarthy -> J. Edgar Hoover -> Anthony Comstock (although I can't seem to figure out if Hoover and Comstock ever actually met).

[–] theherk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks for the new word. Perfect.

[–] faythofdragons@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Don't wait, there's more! Dotage is a related term for the time period of being a dotard. I worked in elder care, and we'd often use "They're entering their dotage" as a polite way to say "they're going senile".

[–] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Could one become a dotary?

[–] faythofdragons@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You can be in dotary and go senile, or you could be a Dotary and be a braille ebook.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Can you even imagine how horrible the world would be if human immortality were ever achieved?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago

We would have vampiric elites sucking the life force out of children... Oh wait.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Are we talking, like, we stop aging all together, or are we talking like "come back from death" immortality?

Because the former is a problem that can be dealt with, the latter is a horror movie.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I mean permaputin, permatrump, permahegseth, permamiller, permahawley, permamusk, permazuck, permabezos, permatiel, permacruz...

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In the case of despots like Trump, the former is a dystopian thriller too..

Isn't he "technically" an immigrant child? His grandfather was German, right? Soo by Trump logic he himself doesn't have rights.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Rules don't apply to him. Checkmate.

[–] bertlewirth@lemy.lol 5 points 1 week ago

Yup. As is always the conservative way, “rules flr thee, not for me”

[–] DMCMNFIBFFF@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ilhan Omar has constitutional rights.

[–] ElDuderino@lemmus.org 9 points 1 week ago

It really baffles fascists to learn that the constitution has never just protected citizens.

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.today 18 points 1 week ago

Conservatives have always opposed human rights. Always.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I suggest Trump is a traitor and seditionist and should receive a just punishment as laid out in the Constitution.

[–] bertlewirth@lemy.lol 5 points 1 week ago

I suggest he get stoned to death for adultery, as per his precious book he and his ilk have never read.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

Now you're talking

[–] xxce2AAb@feddit.dk 14 points 1 week ago

Well, to be fair, he doesn't think any other American citizen has constitutional rights either.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Trump doesn't think anyone has any rights other than to suck his fat orange sausage.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Cute to think that anyone thinks it's fat.

[–] Pavidus@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Honest question, because this argument seems pretty fucking dumb. Is there not a process to vet and verify representatives? I would think that any crazy shit in their background would be found pretty quickly upon accepting the job.

I mean, I get that a shitload of people have worked for this administration while ignoring their background or qualifications. In those instances, it was ignored because they wanted to. In this case, they are specifically out to get her.

[–] impairedimperator@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago

I think technically the vote is the verification.

[–] bw42@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

To be a Representative in the House you have to be at least 25 years old, a citizen for 7 years, and live in the state you're elected.

[–] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

“Excuse me, but aren’t there rules and procedures for this?” will echo through time as the most impotent question ever asked.

[–] JustPlainDave@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago

Really fucking dumb guy says really fucking dumb shit. This and weather and sports at 11:00.

[–] mkwt@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

If there is any class or category of people who have no rights, then no one has any rights.

Because the government can just disappear full citizens into the no-rights category, and there is no right to challenge the designation.

I suggest we talk about the TRUMP-EPSTEIN FILES(TM)

If he makes that argument then we should also argue that he shouldn't have them either.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Everyone has constitutional rights, even pedophiles like Trump

Not in all states. He is, after all, a convicted felon. He'd lose SOME rights everywhere in the US, voting rights everywhere except DC, Vermont, and Maine. If he was literally anyone else, that is.

The fact that he's functionally above the law even after being found guilty doesn't mean that others like him are..yet.

Since when has Trump cared about the constitution?
