Rules

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the admin that applied the rule (check modlog first to find who was it.)

Death Penalty

I’m shocked more CEOs of electric car companies aren’t angry enough at the high price of diesel to openly commit war crimes

why stop at one, throw the whole constellation up there, no lube

I'd sooner bring the constellation down, so that it isn't a fucking Kessler syndrome waiting to happen, perpetually destroying earrh-based astronomy as well.

[–] resipsaloquitur@lemmy.cafe 30 points 1 day ago

Trump said it was time forΒ Ukraine to end the war.

Yeah, Ukraine, knock it off. Stop being invaded by imperialists.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

When the world richest man can order a country to be fucked over and people to die, you'd think we'd get rid of that man, but here we are.

No single person should be able to wield such power

[–] boonhet@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

SpaceX should be nationalized.

Except then it would belong to the US so it just changes the man in charge of things and not for any better or worse really.

Perhaps such a satellite network should simply not be allowed to exist in the first place. Then there's no politics involved.

[–] flango@lemmy.eco.br 1 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

don't be naive, SpaceX is an asset of USA military. Musk is just a useful clown

[–] boonhet@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 hours ago

"Billionaires hold no power" is certainly a take

[–] Arancello@aussie.zone 95 points 1 day ago (26 children)

All you tesla owners. you enabled this psychopath

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Originally this was unfair, but it's 2026. If you still have a swastacar, fuck you.

[–] diaphragmwp@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

This is an interesting philosophical question, honestly. My own current opinion includes !fuckcars@lemmy.world though, so it doesn't matter too much.

According to RationalWiki, Musk "went crazy" ~2018 and <18% of 2025 purchases were <= that year.

Should someone with a, for example, 2015 model be given the benefit of the doubt? Does it change if it was purchased well after the fact but restored from a wreck by a third party or something, or if it was bought from someone avoiding the reputation?

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And Twitter users.

And, perhaps most importantly, the investors who allowed Musk to go from just another moderately wealthy silicone valley dude to the wealthiest person on earth. And the FTC for not throwing him in jail for decades for stock market manipulation.

[–] 0tan0d@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Don't forget the regulators who let him have a board made up of his friends and family.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

Of all the other shadey shit he does, is that one actually illegal?

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Like.... I agree with you, but i'm confused.... Would that be someone other than the FTC?

[–] 0tan0d@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The SEC no? idk how laws work I am not a lawyer. All I see is if you have a ton of money the legal system does not appear to work at all.

[–] paultimate14@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Oh thank you- sorry I meant to say SEC instead of FTC initially.

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 37 points 1 day ago (1 children)

and shareholders. and twitter users.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Most shareholders don't have a choice. Pension funds and 401k's are legally required to own a pool of all stocks which forces them to buy Tesla.

It's how Musk got to offload his overpriced SpaceX stock onto the public.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They diversify sure. But are they required to have a pool of β€œall stocks?” (That would be quite a few.) The portfolio managers can choose what to include in the portfolio.

[–] impairedimperator@lemmy.zip 4 points 21 hours ago

All 401(k) are legally required to invest in fortune100 stocks.

That's why the normal 3 month delay for getting listed as a fortune100 being reduced to 15 days in the case of SpaceX was a bit of a brouhaha.

[–] Art____Dent@feddit.org 11 points 1 day ago

"But I bought it, before he went crazy!" ... "He always has been!"

[–] ShaggyBlarney@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 day ago

"But I bought before we knew he was crazy wah wah wah!" /s

Seriously doesnt help that he buys his way into cool things and spreads his stank on it.

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 day ago

Don't forget starlink.

Musk is a fascist, but I also believe this was not done without the blessing from the US administration after the deal with Putin. They just want to keep it at arms length because of the upcoming midterms

[–] betanumerus@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Elon Musk has also provided $250M for Trump to get elected, and keeps funding GOP campaigns today.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 8 points 19 hours ago

He also dismantled USAID, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths, SO FAR.

[–] Hirom@beehaw.org 19 points 1 day ago

All nations considering use of Starshield or Starlink should pay close attention.

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Ukraine should go after all their active enemies who are attacking them

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

if musk is proven to turn off the service at strategic points he could be asserted as enemy/foreign agent. Mind you the service is paid for. Foreign agents not adhering to the rules of war (declaration, wearing uniform) are not subject to geneva conventions and basically "free game" indeed. I dont think he knows what hes getting himself into.

[–] bjc@scribe.disroot.org 9 points 1 day ago

the world's richest man, backed by the full military and economic authority of the united states, israel, and russia, is probably relishing how much "he's getting himself into."

the dude is probably creaming his pants at the thought of being the ancap god he's always wanted to be.

There’s a reason China and the EU built their own GPS services.

[–] BigShammy80@feddit.org 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So Musk is a criminal of war... Does he have anything to fear?
