But the Disney World show was recently replaced with Zootopia.

The movie about how the crack epidemic was manufactured by the state?

[–] FartMaster69@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I mean that’s less a conspiracy and more the march of time.

Obviously they’re pushing the newer stuff more.

[–] Axolotl_cpp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 days ago

Oh shit, Zootopia is already 10 years old

[–] protist@retrofed.com 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They also replaced Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Pretty sure that's because it was decades old rather than some political commentary

[–] Soupbreaker@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Aw, weak. The Wind in the Willows and The Hobbit really fueled my lifelong dream of living in a well-appointed hole.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

Yeah, but that was recently. It was A Bugs Life when I was a child, and it only recently changed. I want to guess it lasted around 20y, but I can't be bothered to look it up. Anyway, it's not like they tried to bury it.

Bruh… never stand in the way of a meme meant to manufacture outrage. Rookie mistake. The kids get super mad when nuance enters the chat.

[–] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 6 days ago

There was a whole bugs life area of Disney land in California around 2015 I think.

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 41 points 6 days ago (6 children)

More than one person has told me their class consciousness started with an Ant's Life.

Idk I didn't see these movies, it might be thanks for the correction if so.

I am already very enthusiastic about, uh, nevermind.

[–] LilB0kChoy@reddthat.com 27 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They came out close together and both featured ants as main protagonists. A Bug’s Life is the one pictured.

Antz was the "copycat" movie that was rushed out to beat A Bug's Life into the theaters. Back when animation studios even bothered with that shit.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago (7 children)

I find it neat from a psychological standpoint the way your brain merged the two titles into one.

Yes.

(I only saw Antz but not A Bug's Life, and just sort of assumed Antz had the more subversive social message because it wasn't Disney.)

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

Definitely. The collective workers rise up against the militaristic ruling class, after, of course, those rulers attempt to murder them all for their 'glorious future'. Unfortunately, Antz and A Bug's Life also share something else in common. Both star sex pests in the leading role.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 5 points 6 days ago

Also because of their cool spellingz

"Ants are not meant to serve grasshoppers. I've seen these ants do great things! And year after year, they manage to pick enough food for themselves, and you! So who's the weaker species? Ants don't serve grasshoppers! We're a lot stronger than you say we are. And you know it... don't you?"

[–] 666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world 33 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Because individualism is pop, not collective action like whatever the ants are doing

[–] Godort@lemmy.ca 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Ants are only allowed when they push a pro-conformist capitalist message, such as with The Ant and the Grasshopper

[–] LilB0kChoy@reddthat.com 11 points 6 days ago

Ironic you say this because the plot of A Bug’s Life was initially inspired by Aesop’s The Ant and the Grasshopper.

Everyone remembers this movie for the 'workers rise up'.

I rememeber it for the shitty cliche 'liar revealed' story. I remember it for the nasty, mean spirited 'humour'.

I remember it for the transphobic 'joke' that they just loved to use in all the trailers. ("Yikes! She's a guy!")

I remember this movie for starring a fucking pedophile.

This movie is ass and deserves to be forgotten.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

I thought you were mixing up this movie with Antz, because the pedo Woody Allen is in that movie. I didn’t realize Kevin Spacey is in Bug’s Life.

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

The message of this image is the same regardless.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)
[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

There's a whole PS1 game

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Uhhhh... if poopulism sold merchandise Disney will set up shop in your asshole.

[–] x0x7@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

Exactly. We 100% can remove politicians.

[–] MurrayL@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Perhaps because it stars a famous pedophile

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 25 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

Well before those accusations came out. At least take solace in the fact he played the bad guy, thus art ~~imitating~~ foreshadowing life again.

(Assuming you're referring to Kevin Spacey.)

[–] MurrayL@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Sure, I’m just saying that might be one factor in why they’re not exactly eager to promote the movie these days.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

This sequence of comments is giving me deja vu, for some reason.

Spacey's rapey ass tried to play the gay card when the allegations came out, like that would make it ok. He got buried, fuck that guy.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Wonder if he'll make a comeback. Louis CK is putting out specials on nflix again...

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago

He just pulls the "c'mon, I'm just a schlub" card and it somehow works.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Se also: seven samurai, samurai 7, the magnificent seven...

I imagine they may one day make it more realistic like Lion King and absolutely trash the message.

[–] AnimalsDream@slrpnk.net 5 points 6 days ago

I never liked movie tie-in games, but there was a version of A Bug's Life on PS1 that somehow ended up in my household growing up, and it was pretty darn good.
