Latest outburst comes as his push to rebrand the emerging technology increasingly falls flat

Donald Trump on Thursday opened up a new front in his ongoing war against commonly used terms and geographic names by warning that anyone referring to Large Language Models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Anthropic’s Claude as “Artificial Intelligence” would earn themselves a place on his enemies list.

Writing on Truth Social, he declared that the White House “considers anyone that uses the term, ‘Artificial Intelligence,’ as opposed to the highly accepted new and more accurate term, ‘Super Intelligence,’ THE ENEMY!”

The president’s outburst-cum-veiled threat landed just over a week after he signed an executive order directing executive branch agencies to begin referring to artificial intelligence, which is now embedded across the federal government, as “super intelligence” following a lunch with leaders in the AI industry, including Elon Musk, Sundar Pichai, Dario Amodei and others.

Do you guys ever wonder if you'd be flagged at the border if you were to ever go to the US?

It's a gamble as to what will win out between America's police state and their total incompetence as a nation, I think.

Brown kids were already on the list, tho.

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago

Stop trying to make super intelligence a thing, it's not going to happen

[–] slingstone@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

That's okay, Don. I was already your enemy.

Oh, and you've got it backwards. You're the one who's the enemy of our Republic. And pretty much everyone else, too.

Surely he is referring to how these are actually large language models right?

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 2 points 12 hours ago

They only call it that because he was scared of "big word".

[–] IamMoonPie@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Artificial intelligence… did I do it? Am I the enemy now?

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Heres your ticket, you are trump-enemy # 323,064,783 Thats just the count in America. Across the world it'll be more like # 6 billion. I'm afraid you're late to the count but welcome! Have a beer.

[–] IamMoonPie@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Better late than never I suppose!

oh yeah, well I do formally declare that trump is a poopyhead. How about that.

He's so stupid. Who cares what he proclaims. He doesnt have the authority to order citizens what to say unless they are federal employees. He can sit down on his rancid dump-filled diaper and shut the hell up.

And we could have told him we were his enemy before this, all he has to do is open his fat eyes.

He already declared Democrats to be "the enemy from within".

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

This is just an example of how obsessed and dependent shitpants is on artificial intelligence to do his thinking for him.

[–] Bluedragon012@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago)

Then I am Dumb Don's enemy.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 106 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Loyalty test. If you don’t use their language you don’t support them.

History tells us this is common with these types of regimes.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Also, Trump is constantly talking to grok now, likely a version of grok tuned to constantly praise him more than the already spineless praise that you normally get from chatbots.

Trump only ever praises people, or things now I guess, that butter him up first.

And now we know how seriously we should take the rest of the sewage he spews.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Should call them LLM anyway.

If 'super intelligence' is such a "highly accepted" phrase, why is Trump so insecure about some people not using it? The 'gentleman' doth protest too much.

Some emperor this is. He actually needs to tell his courtiers to show some appreciation for his new set of clothes.

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 103 points 2 days ago (15 children)

Instead of “artificial intelligence” or “super intelligence", how about “Trump-like intelligence”?

Everyone can read into that whatever implications they want.

"Artificial Intelligence" has been the preferred nomenclature since 1955. What a fucking clown.

Curious how they transitioned the names of the Bay of Mexico, the Lake Ontario and now of Artificial Intelligence.

They can accept name changes.

executive departments and agencies (agencies) shall use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory documents within the executive branch.

welp, this only covers executive departments and agencies.

nice try, donnie.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Federal agencies wont follow that directive either. Just the political appointees.

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 58 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Stop trying to make super intelligence happen.

It's not going to happen.

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago

No, no, we just need an executive order requiring federal agencies use the term, then the Library of Congress will update the LOC subject headings and the college libraries will (by default) adopt the new subject headings and it'll be so much fun /s

Of course, the conman is fuming that nobody cares about changing the name of AI because his latest con depends on the value of all the .si domains they purchase in June going up.
