For those in the states, is this something a change with daylight savings can fix? I’m in the dark on that (pun!) and wondering if a change could help?

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 1 points 8 minutes ago

It's the problem.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 3 points 6 hours ago

Good for my goth sensibilities.

It's nice in October to start be able to see daylight in the evenings again

It has redeeming qualities (taken yesterday). Pretty leaves, less intense sun, perfect outdoor temperatures. During fall I can actually enjoy the outdoors tbh.

This is what I hate about New England lately, and it's only getting worse.

The summers are too damn hot and the rest of the year is too damn dark.

Just let us switch to AST ("permanent EDT"). We are too far north and too far east in a timezone that is just too damn big. At least that'll take care of it being too damn dark. There'll still be sunlight left when I'm off work.

I'm sure Wall St. would love to be an hour closer to London, no?

Add to that unbroken cloud cover 24/7 😙👌

[–] Zealotte@lemmy.zip 17 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

I actually love that. Perfect weather.

[–] islandcoda42@lemmy.zip 5 points 11 hours ago

I work outside year round and cloudy weather is THE best- bit cooler in summer and the clouds make it a bit warmer in the winter. Love the clouds!!!

[–] blibla@slrpnk.net 8 points 13 hours ago

right? finnaly i can see because it's not mega bright and think because its not mega hot

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.social 4 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

Not a ray of sunshine coming through, no shape to the clouds, just uniform grayness, no rain even? It feels like the sky is hanging too low and there's something wrong with your eyes, like you didn't notice you left your laptop at 25% brightness since last night. For weeks on end. Starting now until December or whenever the first snow comes. If it comes that is.

It may seem like relief when a too-hot summer is still fresh in your mind, but have you ever even experiened that and still say you love it?

[–] Zealotte@lemmy.zip 2 points 7 hours ago

Yes. It is my ideal weather.

I am a sweaty yeti though.

Might explain the preference.

Joke's on you, I was already not getting any sunlight-vitamin D in summer! The sun is a deadly lazer!

[–] danielfm123@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 hours ago

As deadly as time

You can make a religion out of this.

Actually, why not. Besides, has anyone conquered that bit yet?

Por que no los dos?

[–] PixeIOrange@lemmy.world 26 points 19 hours ago

I love the dark. It matches my depression.

[–] Rugnjr@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 15 hours ago

I quite like the significance placed on the "turning on of the lamp" in moomins books to signal the start of autumn. Dark!

[–] pntha@lemmy.world 14 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

i don’t particularly enjoy getting off with the big lights on

Way back when I decided to dye my hair black, that song helped me choose which kind of black.

My black is blacker than your black

Ahh if the op is actually from yukon as the handle suggests, i believe their experience during fall is like that. Im a few degrees south from that latitude but its still quite depressing here tho only in the latter half of fall. Early october is still quite bearable.

[–] SharkAttak@kbin.melroy.org 2 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Something like the midnight sun fenomenon?

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 hours ago

I mean its not really a phenomenon, it happens every year in the north as the closer you get to the poles of earth the shorter days get during winter and longer during summer. Midnight sun happens before cause of the curvature of the earth plus light spreading, and no sun at all doesnt really happen so much, its more like a very small amount of sunlight for a long time. I dont live that north but it still means the total daylight we get during the winter solstice is about 6 and a half hours, from 8:45 to 15:15.

[–] Kenny2999@lemmy.world 8 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

I was today years old when I realized that we indeed fall into darkness for several months and then spring back into the light.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 1 points 7 hours ago

Clearly you do not live on the equator.
