[–] Seleni@lemmy.world 91 points 1 day ago (2 children)

See, that’s why US cops just shoot protesters instead.

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

surprisingly enough, police don’t shoot at armed protestors in the us. but for some reason protesting groups make being unarmed a requirement, and if you show up armed, they other you and work with police to get you removed

I thought it was so they could get some time off with pay before transferring to a new station.

[–] Seleni@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

That too! It’s a two-for-one deal

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah... Moments later they'll start throwing teargass cannisters and bring the water canon. That'll cause people to begin dispersing, and when they do, those riot police will charge again and then they'll certainly not retreat.

The local hospital will have a very busy evening.

In France (and in the civilized world at large) there are levels of escalation in policing, here is a great example. The US however as I understand it has two levels: eating donut ---> opening fire. For some reason the US is slightly dysfunctional, apparently.

Don't taze me bro.

This is an element I appreciated of the WatchDogs games. If you escalate methods slowly, the fascist security forces do the same. So if you use baton strikes, they act the same way, and aim for an arrest that won’t kill off your unnamed character. It’s mostly a way to prefer stealth, since that stays nonlethal and silent. But in an emergency if you start shooting, they shoot back.

There’s also some bits of karma to pre-escalation on their side; 3 guards guarding an entryway is tricky to get through. 3 guards backed up by a giant machine gun turret is actually easier since it’s just a button press.

Yeah, because cops may be stupid, but they can still count.

Well, French cops can count.

What do you expect from a language that defines 99 as 4x20+10+9

[–] FreeLikeGNU@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

how many luftballons go by?

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

It's not the number that's important, it's that they went through Belgium.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 4 points 22 hours ago

TIL: Im not eligible to be a French cop, because Math.

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 63 points 1 day ago (2 children)

looked like an unorganized charge though. Germany has (unfortunately) laws against demonstrating when police said its go home time. So they just pick individuals and book them for the night. With a few (unlawful) bonks on the head.

[–] odioLemmy@lemmy.world 6 points 23 hours ago

You can try resisting and de-arresting if the crowd is involved, but in my experience demonstration crowds in Germany are just passive, and a few cops can do that comfortably because the rest of the thousands of assistants just stand there and watch.

We Germans are just pussies.

I'm super jelly of France where they start burning the whole country when their gouvernment tries to increase the retirment age from 64 to 65 in Germany it's been 67 for decades without major protests from the population.

[–] brownsugga@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago

In the US, half of those protesters would be dead already

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago

Guns, airpower, and artillery upended many of the classic rules of warfare that were practiced and honed for thousands of years before these technologies arrived. But protest and riot return us to the close quarter melee warfare that defined millenia, and for which there are writings from authoritative experts like Sun Tzu, Alexander, Xenephon, Vegetius, their writings on military strategy including use of archers, cavalry, terrain, complex movement, supply logistics, and tactical intelligence. Modern riots are fascinating in how they echo these historical principles so closely.

Because they didn't hurt anyone and showed restraint?...

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, because they are class traitors

[–] 87Six@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah... I guess. But at least they don't shoot people for walking wrong

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Hey they only do that to brown people in the US

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today -2 points 1 day ago

french pigs, i think a stale baguette would suffice in scaring them off.

[–] slickgoat@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Obviously the French police have never met a French protester before.

[–] catsarebadpeople@sh.itjust.works -5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The second amendment is for shooting cops (America only).

[–] AviAdi@suppo.fi 2 points 18 hours ago

Lmfao false, it's for shooting up schools. What a shithole country

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago

That's a lot of candy ass talk considering what's going in in the US news currently
