Honestly think the French hate was/is a psychops.

If you was rich and in power and wanted to maintain control would you really want your people to like the country that is known for killing the rich and powerful?

The “Napoleon is angry because he’s so short” smear campaign from the English is still working to this day, why not use a move already proven to be effective?
