The Group of Seven Nations agreed Friday to release 100 million barrels of oil from its stockpiles—following a desperate plea from the White House.

The G7 held an emergency meeting Friday morning to discuss global energy costs. The discussion came in the wake of a pressing call between Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron, during which the U.S. leader asked for assistance amid the current oil crisis and floated the idea of banning U.S. diesel exports, according to CBS Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Margaret Brennan.

Donald Trump announced after the meeting that “Europe has just agreed to release a massive amount of their heavily stocked Diesel Oil. The process will begin immediately.”

The European barrels are expected to hit the market over the next four months.

He didn't beg, he threatened.

[–] weps@lemmy.world 45 points 4 days ago (1 children)

no, he didn't beg

he threatened to stop selling US energy to EU

[–] boonhet@lemmy.zip 18 points 4 days ago (7 children)

He'd be a moron to do that tbh. Right now the US is massively profiting off the high energy prices. Not its people but its oil companies at least.

[–] adhdsergio@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (2 children)

He's bankrupted casinos before so why not his own oil industry

The art of the deal bro. You clearly just aren't business savvy. 😜

They all should have said no.

Why do people keep helping him???

Why does the rest of the world keep rolling over to his idle fucking threats???

[–] OnyxRex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 67 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

There are a lot of reasons, most of them suck.

Short answer is he's just the front man for a much larger demographic and he's got a lot of financial systems held hostage because of almost 100 years of the US working to make the dollar the global currency. He's everyone's problem.

[–] LilB0kChoy@reddthat.com 20 points 5 days ago (3 children)

He's everyone's problem.

No, no, no, haven’t you seen the posts all over? He’s America’s problem and it’s their mess to clean up.

There’s absolutely no global impact on the rise of far right ideology and it’s certainly not trending up in pockets around the world.

The puppet regime that is the Trump administration isn’t an indicator of a larger global oligarchy problem at all.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

He's the responsibility of the US. He's a global problem though.

Forget that, the USA are a global problem. He's just the band's leader.

[–] LilB0kChoy@reddthat.com 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

He’s the American symptom of a global problem that is humanity’s responsibility.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 9 points 5 days ago (5 children)

The rest of the world ain't gonna throw him out. The USA have to handle this. The only country regularly invading others to change their governments is... well, you get it.

You smile, while you massively uspcale and speed up all the processes of untangling dependencies, building sovereign capabilities in areas that previously relied on the US etc. France is one of the best examples for that.

[–] NormalHumanBreathing@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I just hope this is true. I really think America needs a good 20 years in the wilderness to contemplate what they did by voting in that corrupt, morally bankrupt, buffoon. I hope he rots in jail for all he has done.

[–] Damage@slrpnk.net 19 points 5 days ago (10 children)

What he's done is what they've always done, just more grotesquely and evidently.

They are not helping out of their own volition. It's extortion. Europe imports 50% of its Diesel from the US. If we say no, not only the consumers will suffer, but the economy as a whole. Massively.

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago

Didn't Europe learn anything for the past 10 years? If it somehow benefits him he will do it anyway.

I doubt he would do it though as this would actually increase prices in US as well.

The reason for it is that US doesn't have infrastructure to deliver diesel everywhere on its territory. Manny states import it, because that was more economical way. They likely would continue importing after experts are closed (as the only other way to deliver it is via diesel consuming trucks which is very expensive).

Now, because all of the produced diesel cannot be consumed, the refineries would have to reduce production which would further reduce the supply and increase prices.

That whole thing would also be a massive loss to his billionaire friends who own oil companies as for them this high price situation is a good mine.

The only time I see him ban experts is if Vlad would ask him to.

Donald Trump is a rapist. All this is happening because Donald Trump forced himself on little children.

[–] Thor_Whale@lemmus.org 3 points 3 days ago

Yup and bibi's got the video

[–] Molvorin@feddit.dk 85 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Have you guys noticed that all of the craziest things he does always hit on a Friday? Just in time to harvest the changes if the atickmarjet but always late enough for the international markets to have closed?

[–] CountVon@sh.itjust.works 48 points 5 days ago

The Friday News Dump has been around a lot longer than Trump. Market Manipulation Day is every day for Trump. He doesn't wait until the end of the week for that shit.

Thing is... they folded. I wonder if it has to do with the number of US military bases on EU soil.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

Then stop the Iran war, Dementia Don!

Too bad they all didn't say "Fuck you"

[–] ProwlsInSoup@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

I really hope spinless cowards who runs my home country won't help him... they will probably help him...

[–] Tango@piefed.ca 23 points 5 days ago (1 children)

So it's the Group of Seven again when he wants a favor, huh? Why didn't he just ask his G8 buddy Putin?

[–] Tja@programming.dev 6 points 4 days ago

I know it's rethorical, but Putin already banned exports of diesel well into 2027. Kinetic sanctions...

[–] Tja@programming.dev 15 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

The European barrels are expected to hit the market over the next four months.

We just need a month for paperwork and stuff, we'll start around middle of November. Hope this helps!

Prices would plummet tomorrow if he got the fuck out of Iran.

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

I'm not even sure that's true. It kind of seems like Iran is pressing for regime change in the US: https://img9.irna.ir/d/r2/2026/09/29/0/173138753.pdf

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 17 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don’t know about “plummet” as they always seem to fall like a feather if that’s the trend, but you are otherwise right.

[–] bus_factor@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago (8 children)

Which is fair, because there's a good chance we'd be back at it in three days.

Also, prices will never be the same, because the risk calculus for the Strait of Hormuz has changed forever. Insurance premiums for shipping through there will never go back down.

Serious question: if Europe were to fully commit to installing renewables, how much dependence on diesel would it maintain in, say, one year? I mean really putting it all in, like a war economy but with this

[–] filister@lemmy.world 11 points 5 days ago (11 children)

The whole transportation business run on diesel. There are currently no good truck EVs and if there are they will require special charging stations, so it would be very difficult to change to renewables and EV overnight.

We will still be dependent on petrol though, but much less, but petrol is needed in the chemical industry for the production of plastic, for plane fuel, etc.

WSJ/US press repeating them, are pretending that 90% of prewar transit has occurred this one time at band camp. If it were true, China would be buying it and getting massive refining profits from exports. Iran has hit over 7 ships in last 2 weeks attempting to transit without its permission. Even if they were getting out some oil, region needs ships to go back into SoH.

And Fotzenfritz bent right over and greased his butthole.
