Interestingly enough, the number of food recalls is actually currently lower than the historical average, which may be the real issue here. RFK got rid of many of the FDA’s people that test this stuff. Fewer testers > fewer tests > less recalls. Kinda makes you wonder what we’re not catching.

So are these recalls getting more publicity than usual? Should we not be worried? What's the source for this? Just curious because the recalls are worrying me, personally. But your comment makes it seem like there's no issue here except the stuff we're not catching.
Oh, it's definitely something that's getting more coverage because it's the narrative most of us expect from this administration, so memes and stories about it get more clicks and engagement. It sells.
As far as a source, I noticed the uptick in the number of memes about food recalls and was just curious if we actually were having more recalls than normal, so I did a search for the topic and read what I found. I would recommend doing the same for anyone else curious about the topic. We all would do well to remember that memes are not a valid source for news and information - not if you want the full picture.
Now, I wouldn't say that there's nothing to be worried about, but the number of recalls alone isn't the problem we should be focusing on. For starters, there's the issue I already mentioned that we aren't doing as much testing as we have in the past because RFK did indeed gut the FDA. The other issue I noticed in my reading is that while we may have less recalls than average at the moment, the stuff that is getting through seems to be more dangerous (e.g., the cyclospora outbreak), and the FDA is taking longer to respond to those outbreaks.

The issue is fewer tests means the recalls come later when people are sick and in hospital. It used to be they detected a bacteria in something and are pulling it from shelves. It's now 20 people are in hospital and 5 people died we should probably stop selling that

Cantaloupes are always on the damn recall list for E. coli, salmonella, listeria, amongst other things. Mostly because a lot of farms don’t provide bathrooms to workers so they just shit in the field. And this was during the Obama administration.
and because its likely migrant workers, immigrants, or this case in other countries thier own citizens owned by some other group that doesnt provide santitation, people wont get outrage over it.

Yeah, they are fast tracking the trials, one failed the last round of trials in 2024, but since then I think at least 2 others have passed stage 3.

Jesus you know what, I should know better. They're gonna fuck this up until they find something that's addictive that you have to take the rest of your life for it to work, or a treatment that forces you to take other drugs of theirs to treat its symptoms.
The one amazing thing about psychedelics is they can be a literal cure that you take once, and capitalism abhors a cure. They'll take a molecule out of it and fuck this whole thing up to make as big a profit as possible.

huh, i never thought about precisely where i sourced mine, but it get it from the indian spice store in town. their price for five pounds of stick cinnamon cannot be beat. also it tastes good.
Real cinnamon sticks should have many fine layers and crumble easily, while cassia sticks are thick and hard.
You might be getting the real thing since that would likely come from Sri Lanka.
