Essentially all of the cinnamon you buy is actually cassia, which comes from China. China is a little bit famous for the extra lead in things they produce.
huh, i never thought about precisely where i sourced mine, but it get it from the indian spice store in town. their price for five pounds of stick cinnamon cannot be beat. also it tastes good.
Real cinnamon sticks should have many fine layers and crumble easily, while cassia sticks are thick and hard.
You might be getting the real thing since that would likely come from Sri Lanka.
