Most little cat furniture would be $20-50 dollar and might be poorly constructed. $100 for something that looks nice and is hopefully well made doesn't sound so bad.

The secret to get a cat to use a bed is to place it in a spot they already like to hang out at. My cat was always sitting on an end table to look out the adjacent window, so I stuck a bed there and he couldn't be happier to lay there all day long now.
Edit: Placing a warming pad where you want them to sit works wonders too.

Oh yeah they really love and appreciate a good view. Especially if there are birds and other small wildlife nearby.
Just set something you don't want them to sit on top and they'll sit right on it.

Perch on the edge. You aren't supposed to sit back in furniture like that. It was really made for birds. The victorians just misunderstood it's true purpose due to excessive corsets and absynth causing a general lack of oxygen intake.

I'd like to think that the fact that 80 years ago women were expected to "stay home and take care of the kids" and today that's generally not even a choice, that progress is winning.

Ironically, 80 years ago was immediately after American women had just won WWII (checks nervously to make sure we're not on ml) by going into the factories and making the weapons that the men needed to fulfill their proper role of going out and dying. The women being homemakers shit was a calculated strategy to give their jobs back to the men who survived.
Excepting that part of the world that has fish that swim up your penis.
Seems like people back then put a lot of effort into making their lives miserable, not like today where it just happens automatically.

My partner is a big antiquer and we would have been out $100 if this showed up in our area.
My sister-in-law owned a real Victorian couch. It was quite beautiful, but holy shit was that thing uncomfortable to actually sit on. The seat part was at least sprung, but it was rounded and fit no part of the human anatomy. The back and arm rests were just solid wood. Definitely from an era when you did not want guests to make it to dinner time.
They may actually not claw it up since the wood doesn't really allow them to stretch like that. But I wouldn't put it past them. The cats are going to do what they'll do.

Not protecting that surface with a blanket in a cat house is a death sentence by a thousand scratches. Wouldn't recommend.

This is his home as much as it is mine. Plus most of my furniture is second hand so it doesn't cost as much.
Velvet is surprisingly resistant to cat scratches. I have a velvet cover on my leather couch, and my cat goes to town on it with his claws. I can usually “wipe away” the scratch marks, and they’ve never punctured through to the leather.
Depends on the cat. Cat hair on the other hand, I'd recommend a secondary surface for catching as much as possible.
It also depends on the cats that live there. We have an adopted cat for the last year and a half that was a street cat picked up from a larger City. He's very social, has zero personal boundaries, and will explore any horizontal surface that he can climb his way to. That said, he only scratches on things that we put out for him to scratch on. Granted, we have multiple scratching posts throughout the house, and other assorted cardboard scratchers available to him. But so far we haven't seen him consider the furniture.
A need is a responsibility.
