  • The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is the most active state conducting Foreign Interference (FI) activities in Canada, in scale and scope of activity. FI helps the PRC counter what it perceives as a concerted effort by the West to contain the PRC’s development.
  • PRC officials and proxies are likely to continue to conduct FI activities despite increased public scrutiny.
  • The PRC is likely to attempt electoral interference over the next year, possibly in the next federal election.
  • The PRC will almost certainly continue to engage in acts of transnational repression (TNR).

...

In its September report on foreign interference (FI), the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) said Chinese officials and proxies are responsible for planning, organizing, and carrying out interference activities in Canada.

CSIS said that China uses a sophisticated system of incentives and disincentives to condition targets to be responsive to Chinese state interests.

"Incentives include financial and status rewards, many of which occur in the PRC," the agency says.

"Disincentives generally involve coercive practices, including visa controls (both to enter and to leave China) and monitoring, harassment and intimidation, punishing friends and family to deter specific activities."

China's goals is to "push Canadian politicians and decision-makers toward adopting pro-PRC positions and policies that run counter to Canada’s national interests."

...

"The PRC will continue to target Canadian democratic institutions to advance PRC strategic objectives to the detriment of Canada’s interests," the agency says.

...

The CSIS report also published its analysis about FI threats posed by India, Pakistan, Iran, and North Korea.

Nothing about FI threats posed by the US?! Even with the reported hundreds of millions spent in Alberta, an air base dedicated to online influence campaigns, the data centre manipulations, etc. It doesn't count if it's a capitalist nation?

Hard to believe US isn't the top given Alberta and the over representation of American social media in Canada.

Also their police entrapment in Canada

One is with official state agents.

The other is done by persons or corporate interests.

If you look at Trump's inauguration and think there's a difference between the two in the US then I think it requires re-evaluating.

[–] Kyrias@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

I mean that's corporate interests influencing their own government. To disastrous consequence.

[–] DeadEndLink@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Nope.

  1. U.S
  2. "Israel"
  3. India

I question if Chinese interference is even on par with the UK's...

[–] codydodd@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Says your feelings? China has had illegal police stations, state-sponsored doxxing through diplomatic channels, immense political pressure on chinese canadian opposition, as has been acknowledged by intelligence agencies for years. India and US also appear actively in intelligence reports. You are pulling UK out of your ass.

[–] DeadEndLink@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

From what I've read, the secret "Chinese police stations" story was national post nonsense.

I absolutely am pulling U.K out of my ass. That's the point.

Did you actually read these? "Trudeau cash for access scandal?" Lol

Also: water is wet.

10 years of bullshit from Michael Chong and NP journalists, along with the LPC being corrupt doesn't equate secret police stations.

[–] codydodd@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

They include legitimate intelligence reports, did you read?

Here is one quick example:

Furthermore, there have been claims by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) that Chinese law enforcement officers have been operating under the guise of Chinese community organizations or businesses in Canada

That isnt some random MP. Stop gaslighting please

[–] DeadEndLink@lemmy.ca -3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You're right. CSIS is always genuine.

[–] codydodd@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

First claim was it was only NatPost. Second claim was it was just some MP. I showed neither if your statements were true. CSIS is an intelligence agency. Ive shown links to RCMP, CSIS and for good measure:

  • MOFA

August 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Chong and his family had been the target of an online disinformation operation by the Chinese government.

Yet you will keep moving the goal post I bet.

[–] DeadEndLink@lemmy.ca -2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Dude. I do not believe a god damned thing Chong or any CPC MP says. This isn't evidence to me.

Also, what does a disinfo campaign have to do with secret police stations?

This wiki is just a smattering of poorly connected suggested occurrences.

[–] codydodd@lemmy.ca 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Again, I cited the RCMP, CSIS, and FYI it was a liberal Ministry of a foreign affairs that revealed Chong was subject to a Chinese government campaign. And the secret police stations were cited by the RCMP, a canadian police agency, and CSIS, an intelligence agency. Not Chong, not National Post. I have provided you ample evidence and you refuse to provide a morsel of evidence to back up your dismissal of real concerns about state sponsored Chinese interference.

Man, Lemmy really is brainwashed.

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Congratulations your "intelligence" agency is compromised and pushing Western fearmongering agenda to aid America and Israel. The ones actually sponsoring right wing parties worldwide.

[–] scrodumb@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

Shit ain't binary dawg, both those things are ongoing together all at once.

Just because a couple inbred morons are doing it doesn't mean other inbred morons aren't also doing it at greater scale.

Grow the fuck up.
